Mark Eaton's hip hurts; NHL Power Rankings

JT: "Think that guy is giving us more power?" >>Grabner: "Herr Capuano? Alles hat ein Ende, nur die Wurst hat zwei."

Not a lot of news flowing in from the West, but the Islanders' Twitter feed says Mark Eaton is now out with a hip injury that will be re-evaluated tomorrow. Also, from earlier this week: Birthday boy Zenon Konopka got the ol' faceful of cream. More pertinent, Newsday's Katie Strang adds updates on Blake Comeau (practiced with squad) and Frans Nielsen (skated beforehand), as well as quotes from Jack Capuano on Kevin Poulin -- who isn't even certain to be dressed for tomorrow's game, though prudence would say he flew out, so suit him up.

Down a rung on the organizational ladder, Michael Fornabaio reports Dustin Kohn will play tonight for the Sound Tigers for the first time since Nov. 20; new guy Ty Wishart will also play. (A bit more on Wishart at the official site). Fornabaio has thoughts from Mikko Koskinen on the goalie situation.

Around the league, in the Department of Dangerous Contracts: Mike Commodore wants out in Columbus. And something Isles and Rangers fans can agree on: The confusion with All-Star voting.

After the jump, weekly power rankings and media rankings -- which have gotten more interesting now that the Isles are winning again.

Media Rankings Survey

In which media members take a brief, awkward, hiatus from tired Isles bashing.

CBSSports 26 24
Playing their best hockey and getting rid of their best players in the process. Do the Isles think improving their odds at winning the draft lottery means that much?
Col. Dispatch 27 29
The Islanders are 6-1-1 since Dec. 13 and opened a huge five-game trip against the West with a 4-3 overtime win in Detroit.
ESPN 26 28 The Isles have won six of eight games! The Isles have won six of eight games!
Sportsnet (Brophy) 28 29 The Islanders have won two straight and are 6-3-1 in their last 10.

25 29 John Tavares is back! Not that he actually went anywhere, but after six points in 19 games, he's rallied with 13 points in his last nine games.
Average 26.4 27.8 I am much less funny when my favorite whipping boy wins games.

NHL Power Rankings

These are updated through Sunday's games (so, excluding the win in Calgary, which bumps the Isles over Toronto) and based in part on strength of schedule factors. Formula and calculations courtesy of our own ICanSeeForIslesAndIsles (Happy belated Birthday!).
