Islanders Training Camp Bits: Featuring every man, woman & child

"<em>No one</em> ... is to stone <em>anyone</em>, until I <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MIaORknS1Dk" target="new">blow this whistle</a> -- even if they do say 'Mike Bossy.'"
"No one ... is to stone anyone, until I blow this whistle -- even if they do say 'Mike Bossy.'"

Come back later this morning for our first player community projection -- which is not my projection (well, I get one vote) but yours. That'll give us a baseline of individual expectations and make us put our money where our mouths are.

For now, it's become rote each preseason but I still love the tradition: Each training camp is marked by mini-features on each player, as erstwhile reporters feverishly go through the "what he did last summer" and "how much better he plans to be this season" drills. As a writer in a few different subject areas I can appreciate the challenge of making the routine sound new. So hats off to those giving us the goods when camp rolls around (and look for much more coming out from the following and other outlets today and tomorrow):

  • Scott Gordon praises Jack Hillen's brain, skating, handsomely rebuilt jaw. [NYI Official] You'll also find video interviews with Matt Martin, Gordon, James Wisniewski, Matt Moulson and Mark Streit on the home page tabs there.
  • Michael Fornabaio with some helpful annotation of the Bridgeport camp roster. [Soundin' Off]
  • Forever1940 sorts out the NHL Network release: Long and short: Two Isles preseason games televised Sept. 29 (one live).
  • As Matt Moulson hinted on Twitter last week, John Tavares moves out of the Official Mentor's house -- about four years before Sidney Crosby did, right? [Toronto Sun feature (with best and final line, as usual, from Doug Weight) ... h/t Chris Botta ...entertaining @MMoulson tweets here and here and here]
  • Botta also had his own mini-bit with Tavares as well as a one-on-one video with Josh Bailey.
  • Leaguewide: Notable injury counter now includes Chris Drury (finger, 4 weeks) and Filip Kuba (leg, 5-6 weeks), plus some Blue Jacket. Worldwide: Never too early to fire your coach...
