I won't follow these or this weekend's NCAA playoffs with baited breath, but a quick update is in order on the CHL playoffs, as it relates to some future Islanders:
- In the WHL, Travis Hamonic's Brandon Wheat Kings have swept their first-round series over Swift Current: "Brayden Schenn scored once and added an assist while Travis Hamonic scored his second goal of the series for the Wheat Kings, whose last three series wins have all been sweeps.
- With an overtime win, Jyri Niemi's Saskatoon Blades have gone up 3-0 on
Swift CurrentRed Deer [note: errors preserved for the sanctity of snark in comments] after a Game 2 that ended in a bit of a sideshow. Niemi scored in that game. - Casey Cizikas' Mississaug
ua St. Michael's Majors are up 3-0 in their OHL series against Peterborough. Cizikas has 1 goal and 2 assists in the series. I hope Cizikas continues to do well, but I really don't like having to type out M-i-s-s-i-s-s-a-u-g-u-a. - In non-sweepy news, Jared Spurgeon's Spokane Chiefs lead 2-1 on the Portland
NinosWinterhawks. Here's a local write-up on the popular Spurgeon on the eve of his final juniors run.
