Back to square one.
Back to square one.

So hey...what's new? Anything happen today? Yeah, slow day for me, too. What follows is a roundup of all the reactions and reports I could find to the Islanders' firing of coach Scott Gordon and replacing him with Jack Capuano. Also, while commenters have reacted in the initial thread here and the write-up here, we'll throw up a straightforward poll for the reaction of the masses.

And since the Killing Joke reference got two three! positive responses in my morning pre-firing post, you'll have to endure another:

Back to square one -- and the old school backfire
It's just begun -- let's watch the blind eyes turning
Stains on the wall, been waiting far too long now
Nice day, blue sky; I watch them shrug their shoulders
Tighten the grip (getting tighter); now see the ball is rolling
We take delight, it's been a long wait for this moment.

Back to square one, another empire backfire
Back to square one, another empire backfire

~Killing Joke, "Empire Song"

LHH: I actually think that pre-firing post about the offense and powerplay remains relevant; now we get to watch to see if Jack Capuano's adjustments change things for the better. But the initial reaction thread is here, and you can see various Garth Snow quotes I posted in comments beginning here. A little more wordy reaction and reset from me here.

The New Coach: CT Post's Michael Fornabaio on the new guy. Also, his detailed write-up on Capuano's replacement in Bridgeport, Pat Bingham. And he describes Sound Tigers players slowly realizing some change was afoot. | Justin Bourne on his brief experience playing for Capuano | UPDATE: Very solid HNIC radio exchange between Chris Botta, Glenn Healy and Jeff Marek, with talk of when Gordon was hired and Bob Hartley's candidacy at the time.

Retrospective: At Mirtle's old blog, here were some interesting (positive) impressions of Gordon before he was hired.

National Writers Who Only Write about the Isles for Punchlines: Puck Daddy: Gordon fired for losing with terrible team | CBC: Jon Sim is happy hopeful the team can improve after the move. | ESPN's Burnside does his usual treatment | Globe and Mail's Dave Shoalts pauses from Coyotes bashing to bash Isles' conference call provider | THN's grumpy Ken Campbell calls it another bad move | TSN report

Local Write-ups: Player reactions in Newsday ($5 please); Staple takes a chutes and ladders motif and Gordon was really graceful in his exit ($5 please) | New York Times (standard) | NHL.com (more quotes) | Islanders official site (quotes from Capuano on (re)meeting the team, and Snow) | Rupert Murdoch's mouthpiece (same info) | Mike Hume's reaction at ESPN-NY | Post's Dan Martin | Daily News' Botte

Bloggers: Islanders Point Blank on site for Capuano's first practice | Islesblogger with thoughts on the change and notes from the conference call | NYIFYI thought 10 was the magic number | Okposo Net notes Capuano is Kyle Okposo's first pro coach | CBSNY's um, "Masked Man" reaction | HockeyCrazy not surprised, but still empathetic for Gordon |

Jaffe Pre-Firing, but Related to the State of the Islanders: Kings site Mayor's Manor had a weekend interview with Billy Jaffe that tells you much more than Jaffe's quick NHL Video analysis did.

Off Topic yet On Topic: The Toronto Star smells blood, looks for new coaches to fire.

Oh and by the way: Dylan Reese was recalled from Bridgeport, too. I liked him last year, though it was a limited sample. So I look forward to finding out if I was hallucinating.

I'm sure there were more. As always, if you see others worth mentioning, put 'em in comments.
