Numbers of Nothingness

Some Islanders numbers that mean somewhere between nothing and something...

42 - number of NHL games since Jeff "youth movement" Tambellini has scored a goal, resulting in his two-week (scoring touch) "conditioning stint" in AHL Bridgeport.

16 - number of consecutive starts in goal for Joey MacDonald, who probably could use a rest -- perhaps in Toronto Monday, before the Isles play the next night in Philadelphia?

14,174 - Official attendance from Saturday night vs. the last-place Thrashers, about 1,000 over the season's average thus far. Good or bad sign?

15 - combined number of games sonic youths Kyle Okposo and Frans Nielsen have already missed to injury, with a minimum of a month more (two for Frans) on the shelf still to come.

2 - number of very loud posts the Islanders hit on the same shift against Atlanta ... before the Thrashers promptly went the other way 2-on-1 and scored.

5 - number of times I banged my head on the coffeetable in frustration at the Isles' inability to finish, making for a 1:1 drink:head-bang ratio.

16 - points away from first place in the Patrick Atlantic. (We mustn't speak of who's in first.)

2 - points out of Tavares/Hedman territory last in the league.
