Larry Brooks comments on the Dale Hunter History Will Be Made Commercial

Via the NY Post: While Brooks is often off the mark with the Isles, his take on the '93 team and the aftermath of the Hunter cheap shot really hits the mark. Notable quotes: "The NHL's celebration of Dale Hunter as part of its playoff "History Will Be Made" promotion is nothing less than sickening." "Understand that a healthy, undamaged Turgeon never in a million years would have been traded to the Canadiens for Kirk Muller less than two years later in the deal that debilitated the organization."

Remembering 1992-93: Hockey was never the same

Very fun post at Behind the Net talking about how '80s firewagon hockey (and the crazy stats that came with it) basically carried through to 1992-93, then stopped. I know a lot of Isles fans think Pierre Turgeon was never the same after Dale The Coward mugged him. For his time as an Islander, that may be true -- but getting to watch him later every night for several years like I did in St. Louis, I disagree: Turgeon got "it" back, he just got it back in a league that wasn't scoring as much, on a team that embraced defense-first hockey, at a time when the sport overall became much more focused on suffocating (:cough: obstruction) defense. Still, as a fan part of me died after 1992-93. Still feel in some ways like I'm in purgatory.

Turgeon tragedy

Really sorry to pass on tragic news: According to reports, Pierre Turgeon's 18-year-old daughter Elizabeth was killed in an automobile accident. (h/t Eric Hornick noting the news.) She was a Team USA U-18 player and headed toward U. of Minnesota. She was also one of four children -- and a twin. Words aren't enough for a tragedy like this. But I know Elizabeth's father was a favorite of many here and certainly a favorite of mine, so I thought it worth posting here for your sentiments.
