As of Dec. 27, he had played in eight games this season and his nameplate no longer was hanging in the Coliseum locker room.
Mikko Koskinen’s first ECHL loss comes in Game 1 at Las Vegas; he gave up five goals in a little over half the game as the Wranglers scored four goals in a little over seven minutes in the second. Game 2 is Wednesday at Vegas.
"I'm done exhaling, I still hold my breath. I'll never forget the day I had to get surgery. It was tough. To think at this age you could have [your] career taken away from you, it's a scary thought."
When they were using two nets, he had one to himself. When they used one, he got the bulk of the work, so much so that the team let out a kidding-around "heeey!" the first time DiPietro yielded to Scott Munroe… and then again the first time he yielded to Nathan Lawson.
"Barring any setbacks, DiPietro to report to Bridgeport for conditioning later this week and likely play Sat. for 1st time."
"We spent about an hour on the ice and then more time talking and looking at video. We kept that routine for a week.
When I first signed with the Islanders, although everyone knows I would have liked a long-term deal somewhere, it seemed like fate to me. After I worked with Sudsie that first day, I felt even more like the Islanders were the team I should be with. I can’t tell you how many things I learned from Sudsie. I’ve been in the NHL over a decade and he showed me things to help my game that no one has before. That guy is amazing."
It appears neither Yann Danis nor Joey MacDonald, who split most of the 77 games DiPietro missed last season, will return. The plan now is to keep both Peter Mannino and Nathan Lawson, who will get qualifying offers on two-way deals at Bridgeport, and find a free agent goaltender capable of being a 1A .
The [Islanders] absolutely have to come away with a 1A type of goaltender. I'm fairly certain Florida free agent Craig Anderson is at the top of that list.
