[Duchene and Tavares agent Pat] Brisson said he usually knows by now, adding that Garth Snow's cone of silence act is something he's never experienced in 20 years at the draft.

From TSN's live blog/chat thingy. [Video of Brisson here.] Insane. The NHL owes Snow a promo bonus (which he may or may not need, heh).

The nervous three on Draft Eve

Good stuff from Logan, getting Draft Eve thoughts from the top three... Tavares: Has heard the fan chants, is ready to deliver. Hedman: Ready to win over fans, notes Lidstrom does just fine without cleaning people's clocks. Duchene: Knows who the fans want; hero is The Rocket. Also: a Q&A at Orland Kurtenblog.

Garth Snow's poker game and the #1 pick

Garth Snow has spun the poker game around who he'll pick at #1 masterfully. Maybe that won't matter on draft day, but you can't blame him for keeping his options open.

Returning from the woods, still voting Tavares

Returning from overseas to find Tavares is still the pick for me.

Frankly, as it became apparent the Islanders had a strong shot at the No. 1 pick this season, my feeling was that they needed Tavares more than they needed anything else. But lately, I'm not so sure. Comparing notes with NHL players, broadcasters and personnel experts I know, it's much closer to an even split on the Tavares vs. Hedman question. I haven't yet got a sense of where people stand on Duchene by comparison.

>>Greg Logan, Islanders beat writer for Newsday (aka the paper that covered the Islanders before Tavares)

Top pick: State of the Islanders' dilemma, April 24

Updating the scout views and fan opinions of whether the Islanders should choose John Tavares, Victor Hedman -- or even Matt Duchene -- with the 2009 #1 pick.

"Matt Duchene is a very good player who has progressed a lot. His all-around game is very strong, and he continues to get better. Let's not forget John Tavares has been coming through for years ... Remember that Mike Bossy was not a great defensive player when he was drafted, but he sure helped his franchise."

>>Tavares and Duchene agent Pat Brisson, who of course has an interest in promoting both.
