Prospect Johan Sundstrom has signed an ELC with the Islanders. Rejoice.
"Djurgården is my team," the Islanders 2006 pick said. The headline links to a Google translation of this article in Expressen. Looks like the opportunity to stay there was too much to pass up after last season's goalie partner Gustav Wesslau departed for Columbus.
Good to hear. Edit from Dom: To answer a FAQ, per the CBA he'll still be in either juniors or the NHL next year (not AHL), but if he makes or is called up to the Isles for 10 games, this contract kicks in. For more lovely CBA-ese, you can download the full doc here.
Wow. Top seed DU outshot RIT 40-25 but lost 2-1. For team captain and Isles prospect Rhett Rakhshani, that's it. Great line from Michael Fornabaio: "Rhett Rakhshani, call your a… AN agent. Call an agent."
Sounds like things are going well, according to the local Kemptville EMC. I liked this: "They (Islanders) paid for everything. That's pretty good for a player who hasn't even signed a contract," [the elder] de Haan chuckles.
I'm surprised this news went under the RADAR around here. I stumbled across the news completely by accident. Hamonic played in two games since his return, a 4-0 to Vancouver and a 3-0 to Chilliwack. He went scoreless with 2 PIMs. This is really good news as it seems he's about a month ahead of schedule.
Little write-up at College Hockey News about his senior season, his decision to decline the Isles' offer to leave school early. I'm looking forward to seeing more of him, not looking forward to learning how to spell his name.
Mike Fornabaio reports that Andrew MacDonald was called back up before tonight's Bridgeport Sound Tigers game. No word yet if it's a precaution or if someone (Gervais?) definitely got banged up today.
And note his impressive stats:
