"I’m pretty grateful and thankful that the Islanders took care of that for me," Hamonic said. "It made a pretty big difference because I was in the hospital there and the team was on the road. It was first-class all the way from the Islanders organization, taking care of everything. They couldn’t have treated the situation any better."
Injury updates: Mike Mottau is out for the season with a right hip labrum tear. Rick DiPietro is on the IR with knee swelling
The Islanders have recalled Matt Martin on an emergency basis due to injuries to Trent Hunter and Michael Grabner.
"Now they're thinking I may have injured it earlier in the year and played through it, and now this is where it's at."
De Haan skated off the ice hunched over and went straight to the dressing room. The Islanders wasted no time in getting him to Long Island to have their doctors give a second opinion, with the decision to operate coming immediately.
Jack Hillen, who was hit in the face by an Alex Ovechkin-slapshot last night, is out 6-8 weeks.
Hillen, who will be discharged from the hospital tomorrow, suffered a broken jaw and damaged teeth. He had surgery late last night and early this morning.
"I'm done exhaling, I still hold my breath. I'll never forget the day I had to get surgery. It was tough. To think at this age you could have [your] career taken away from you, it's a scary thought."
When they were using two nets, he had one to himself. When they used one, he got the bulk of the work, so much so that the team let out a kidding-around "heeey!" the first time DiPietro yielded to Scott Munroe… and then again the first time he yielded to Nathan Lawson.
"I don't think it will change the way I play, but I think it'll change the way I approach the game," said DiPietro, who has lost weight after doctors told him it would be good for his knees. "I feel pretty good with the weight, but I haven't been in a game."
