Kate Murray did not show up for a planned meeting with Wang and Democratic county leaders recently, but she had time to hire her 83-year-old father for a $40-an-hour part-time job in the town attorney’s office. With priorities like that, it is hard to imagine keeping the Islanders.

that is both interesting and annoying.
We've seen this version from many ex-Islanders fans. It goes like this: "I have nostalgia for a bygone era, and because that era is gone and I am older, just let the franchise go rather than replenish it."
This happens a lot when something isn't as hot as when it came out. People who have lost interest would rather put their memories in a cozy, closed time capsule rather than watch others keep the thing alive in an imperfect state that doesn't live up to their memory of the golden years. I'm sorry there can never be another dynasty, but you can exit the bandwagon at any time without advocating its demise.
