Al Montoya Might Be Grossly Underrated

Al Montoya arrived with the New York Islanders when both player and team were in desperation mode. Now both may make good on what was always first-round talent.

Do the Islanders Need to Shed a Culture of Losing?

Hockey What If? The Dale Hunter Hit

The saying goes, hindsight is 20/20. When people look back over their lives, they always question what might have been. For fans of any sports team it's no different. From the Mets trading Nolan...

Friedman's arguments for Kirk Muller as a head coach

"He was everything from a first-liner to a fourth-liner, a centre and a winger. He knows what it's like to play every night, to battle back from injury, to being a healthy scratch." Funny, I can think of a few other descriptors for what Muller was during his playing career. You? /still bitter

In the wayback machine, here Gerry Howatt (8) turns next to longtime Ranger Dave Maloney (26) - brother of eventual Ranger teammate Don, who later briefly played with the Isles, GM'd for the Isles (*sigh*, he giveth Turgeon, and he taketh Turgeon away) and currently GM's for the Coyotes. As depicted in the 1976 Stuart L. Daniels book by Stan Fischler, "The Triumphant Islanders: Hockey's New Dynasty." (Note the clairvoyance in the subtitle.)
