My take on the troubled former franchise goal tender.
Update includes a breakdown of the land use. "The approval allows for 5.4 million square feet of construction, including all building and parking structures. Among the types of development permitted in the newly created zone are convention halls, hotels, retail, restaurants, offices, residential units, entertainment uses and a new or refurbished Coliseum." An 11am press conference is scheduled for tomorrow. Original "Patch" source Newsday Notes Nassau County Press Release

Looks at it from a historical perspective.
Of course, there are many others. I just chose to limit it to ten. Feel free to add your own either here or in the BR piece comments section. Wanted to do an item on Anders Lee, but BR had no file pics of him. Also was frustrated by the lack of Calvin De Haan anecdotes on the web.
Not that Botta is pure in this episode, but this move is wrong for the Islanders and their fans.
How involved does $1 billion sound? It gets more interesting: http://www.theverifiabletruth.com/2006/12/web-of-companies-behind-ilitch-casino.html http://www.politicalfriendster.com/rateConnection.php?id1=2575&id2=2574 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_J._Malik,_Sr.
I don't know if anyone picked up on it before, but the US government dismissed the Connecticut-based action barring Shinnecock tribal recognition earlier this month. This clears the way for the tribe to establish casinos on Long Island. The question now is: will the Shinnecock adopt Wang's Lighthouse project in whole or in part? My impression is that they plan to move quickly meaning we should know something before next summer. Given the thousands of empty seats at home games, the Shinnecock are probably all that stands between the Isles and a move to Queens.
I linked these in the game recap, but if you missed them, here are three interesting and complementary takes on the likely next development in the Lighthouse Project saga (after Charles Wang's pre-emptive mini-strike on air last night): Hockey Independent, plus Islanders Point Blank, and Let There be Light(house). Update: Sure enough, Kate Murray plans a press conference Monday a.m., announcing scaled-down zoning plans.
