Kirill Petrov and some Rosterbating

Rosterbating isnt for everyone... but i cant help it this time of the year. This and draft watching, ohhh soo sad. Playoffs were fun last year, werent they? Remember?

So I am not completely positive but I believe the Kirill Petrov situation will be very similar to the Kuznetsov situation. This article explained how contracts and free agency works in the KHL, and how it worked out for Kuznetsov contract situation. I found it helpful while dreaming of Petrov lacing up next year for the Islanders of New York. according to the article we will know somewhere between late April and end of May what Kirill plans to do in regards to staying in the KHL. He is now of age to get a 1-year deal entry level deal, which would be just in time for a pay raise when we move to "Little Russia."

Our bottom 6 would look damn sexy with Petrov in it, and he would have potential to progress higher as the season rolled along. Maybe be he could be part of the solution to our secondary scoring woes in RW2/RW3 role. Or maybe he plays 4th line, would be a huge upgrade over McDonald, he is a big boy, and you cant expect him to step in and produce right away. Or maybe Clutterbuck drops to the fourth and we have the savagery of Matt Martin and Clutterbuck for a full year, either one of them would be adding more offensive potential to that fourth line. I don't know where Bailey ends up; give him a shot at LW1?? I know dangerous, naive, silly, stupid, ignorant, and more. BUT with the kids looking like they are here to stay; I'm not sure if I am comfortable with rushing any of them into that role. Its hard to stick Bailey any where else in the lineup if you dont put one of of the kids at LW1, especially if you add Petrov. It could be a lot of healthy scratches for Bailey in this scenario, further shattering his weak Psyche. Unless Garth is going to want to prove that money he spent on him, and if anyone was going to help him reach his potential, it would be JT. On a side note there are some pretty legit wingers available this FA period, although they all seems to be tagged with injury warnings. The good news is whoever ends up playing LW1 will get to skate with Johnny and the Ox, and therefore will automatically have a career year, or something close to it.

If we were able to land Petrov, having just added Collberg and maybe another forward after this draft, it would make for a very impressive second wave of forward talent after the Lee Strome Nelson storm that washed away some of our disappointment this year (Only SOME.) Our bottom 9 would have some insane competition, and I believe we would have a playoff caliber offense, depending on what we do about LW1. Then all that we will need is a starting goalie (Reimer/Holtby/Halak) and a solid Vet defensemen to replace strait/carkner/martinek. Also Pitkanen may be able to be picked up at a pretty good bargain, and if you take a waiver on his health could be a great stop gap for next year and then the replacement for the aging and contract expiring Viz. I would also be happy with a wily vet such as Willie Mitchell. this would create much more competition for that final roster spot on D. Plus a cup winner like Willie Mitchell who has been around for a while could be a very good influence on the kids coming up, much better then streit or viz could ever be IMO, which is based on my own assumptions and has no factual basis. Also could probably be had at more of a Wangian price range.
