Matinee Madnes: Early games=Early outs? Yes and NO

Here is what the numbers say regarding early games, which for the most are on holiday Mondays, but not all. By early games I mean games prior to 6pm. For the porpoise of this post I shall limit my research to games that started at noon, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm, 4pm and 5pm. I am somewhat limited to the time range that I could research. The NHL web-site game times and of course final scores but only as far back as the 2003-2004 season. Of course the 2004-2005 season was wiped out. So here goes how do our beloved Islanders do on this afternoon games? Well actually if the Islanders where to start every game at 2PM they would be just about unbeatable. Their record of 2pm games is 14-4-0 for winning percentage of .778! However their 1pm start record is 10-17-1, .357 win percentage and yes there were ties back in the 2003-2004 season. Now the really bad news: their record for games that start at any other time, noon, 3pm, 4pm and 5pm is just awful. Here is their combined record for those times: 5-11-1 for a win percentage of .294! That is just simply eye opening start games at 2pm and this team can't be beat. Start games at 1pm and they are 7 games under .500. Start games any other time and you can just about head to Las Vegas and put money on an Islander loss! Now I did not write this Fanpost to crucify my beloved Islanders, but to see if anyone can explain the disparaging numbers. Is it coaching? Nolan years vs. Gordon years? Players then vs. players now? And finally their overall matinee record for this time period is 30-33-2 for a winning percentage of .494.
