Islanders News: No progress on Visnovsky, Strait injuries; Sound Tigers struggles

'Tis only a flesh wound. - Al Bello

Injuries are affecting the Islanders and their affiliates.

Some more Islanders and NHL reads [updated with late Sunday news]:

Islanders

UPDATED: The goalie dominoes were set in motion Sunday after Evgeni Nabokov's injury, as Parker Milner was recalled from the ECHL Stockton Thunder to the AHL Bridgeport Sound Tigers and Anders Nilsson will bump up from Bridgeport to the Isles. Milner's stats aren't stellar thus far, but his last appearance was reportedly of the 41-save "stood on his head" variety. With a game Sunday, the Thunder had to call on a local 41-year-old to dress as "emergency backup." They lost in a shootout, with newly assigned Greg Miller getting one goal.

Arthur Staple tweeted that Nabokov's injury looks like four weeks. Michael Fornabaio notes that this reunites some tandems.

For a brief time Saturday night, John Tavares shared the NHL scoring lead with Brad Boyes Sidney Crosby. But then mean Alex Steen had to go and take it back from both of them.

More post-game from the win over the Wings at the Post | NY Hockey Journal | Point Blank [BAD JOB Keith] Wings fan view from Winging it in Motown: "The Monster was honestly amazing, stopping 37 out of 41 shots. He stood on his head during the third period and overtime, and quite frankly, was the only real reason other than the Islanders shooting themselves in the feet as to why the Wings had a chance tonight."

The Skinny from last night. And here was Capuano's post-game video and notes.

Lubomir Visnovsky still looks quite a ways off, having seen a specialist a few weeks ago. No timetable for him or Brian Strait, reports Arthur Staple in the Newsday Isles blog [$5 please].

More on Visnovsky, how his absence hurts, plus Thomas Vanek on his injury. [Post]

If you missed this, a nice Ryan Strome/John Tavares piece at NHL.com.

Prior to the game against the Red Wings, Newsday's Arthur Staple posted a trio of quick bits: One on the mysterious natures of the injuries to Visnovsky and Brian Strait, who may be dealing with a back ailment [Dolan], one on the Islanders' problems in the face-off circles [Dolan] and one on Casey Cizakas' slow start to the year. Fortunately, he's got goals in two straight games. [Dolan]

And I think this made it around, but some quotes from multiple Islanders players on why they like that Jack Capuano doesn't throw them under the bus via the media, handling the hahd and smaht conversations behind closed doors. [LIBmagazine]

Bridgeport

After a 3-1 loss to Hartford Saturday, Bridgeport is slumping again, losing three in a row and looking for answers.

Sound Tigers players held a post-game meeting last night. Scott Pellerin, via the Connecticut Post's Soundin' Off blog: "I didn’t talk to them after," Pellerin said. "It comes to a point they have to figure it out. I’m going to leave it at that. "The information, the systems, the way our team has to work, comes from me. They have to execute it."

They have lots of injuries plus Aaron Ness lost to the big club, but in the Connecticut Post gamer: "It's not an excuse," Pellerin said. "I'm not going to go there. It's the easy way out. It's not the way I coach. It's not the way the staff coaches."
