Islanders-Montreal [game thread]
Montreal Canadiens at New York Islanders, Feb 9, 2012 7:00 PM EST
In Montreal they have taken to praying to God for the hockey team. They don't realize he's already on the payroll on Long Island, wearing #51. (Okay, I'll stop now.)
This is such a busy month rushing up to the deadline, with games every other night if not on back-to-back nights. Saddle up and hope Hamonic's node id otay toon.

my computer has been acting up lately...help?
it takes longer to load things (not by much and it doesn’t not do it all the time), but the most annoying thing is I hear that ding sound every once in awhile like you would if you tried to exit out of a program without saving.
My anti-virus and other protection found some trojans last week but said they blocked them all, now there is no more they are finding, but I am wondering what files it affected

about the ding sound, it happens for no reason, there is no program up that would warrant it

Ok, from what little research I've been able to do
I was able to find a forum that might be able to help. They recommend downloading a trial program that should clean your comp from the trojan.

Everyone on the board that has had a problem seems to have had the same problem. Look for a post by Polsci for a link to the actual cleaning program. I hope this helps, like I said, it seems to be the same problem, and the trojan seems to be hiding in your SVCHOST.exe

Assuming .900 save %, 8 times a season opposition should score on 1st shot.
For Isles, it is 10th, which is about 60% higher than expected, or about .840 save %, right?
"The reader of this sentence exists only while reading me."
by North Dakota Red Eagle on Feb 9, 2012 7:56 PM EST reply actions
There has to be something mathematical/statistical about that
You would think that, at .900 SV%, it would happen about 8 times per season on average for every team. But the Isles apparently set a new NHL record when they hit 9 times last month. This 10th one is just an extension of that record.
But statistically (and someone who knopws something about standard deviations) should be able to establish for us that this is statistaically highly unlikely. If 8 times a year is the expected, and 30 teams per season over 30 years for a total of 900 seasons, you would expect that 10 being a record would be very unlikely. There must be something about the first shot that makes it statistically an easier shot to stop.

Def rebounds
or at least when the play is in your zone for multiple shots to get the goalie/D out of position.
Yeah, def. rebounds are higher percentage
And really, they could go the final 30 games without giving it up on the first shot, which would be just as odd in microcosm but not odd over the long stretch of games.
Some of these first goals had incriminating circumstances, but some (like tonight) were just shots that went in.

Just got home.
As always, I can’t watch due to MSG’s desire to be the biggest little bitches in the universe. So, are there at least more Isles fans than Canadien fans tonight? It’s the first time they’re playing at the Coliseum in seventeen years in which there’s no blizzard.

I’m still not so sure I want to do that. I can see MSG finding out and then suing me as part of their scheme to break Time Warner’s will.

My point being...
… MSG calls up the FBI (or whoever’s purview this falls under) and tells them to keep an eye on those of us in the NYC area, and to penalize to the fullest extent of the law.
Meanwhile, I do have the game on the radio, which is fine, ’cause I can now clean my apartment while listening, rather than getting sucked in to watching the game. :-)

unrelated, start physical therapy now for the neck surgery tomorrow. Shit hurts more than I thought. How long did you start to feel like you after your surgery? Been cramped in the house for past week working from home, bout to lose my mind haha.
You should've seen her face. It was the exact same look my father gave me when I told him I wanted to be a ventriloquist.
Dpended on how much I abused my meds
My neck never really hurt. It was stiff, but there really wasn’t much pain except for my hip (where they took the bone for the fusion). The hardest part for me was staying still so much. I play drums a little, so I tried to stay active doing that to warm myself up and loosen.
Maybe it helped more than I thought? I mean when playing, you obviously are flexing, but not bearing any extra weight.
In the end, I shed the whole thing by the 4th or 5th week and felt fine, but I wasn’t “back to normal” as far as being athletic for about 5 or 6 months.

And it’s an extremely difficult thing to do in-game. He needs to shake things up every once in a while, during a game. I think he waits too long, or waits until practice to call out ‘passengers.’ He needs to try more in-game changes.

Well, this team is beaten
This is what frustrates me most about this team. They give up way to early way to often. turn on any other game with the team down like this in the third they at least try to fight back till the final buzzer. They don’t quit.
There’s way too much slouch on this team.
Normally the only issue they have with giving up is when they don't come prepared to begin with.
And when you start the game giving up a goal on the first shot for the tenth time this season (Jesus H.) you’re not starting too well. Doesn’t help that Price is playing very well.

Some days I feel like
some of the dynasty-era Isles who are still around need to come into the locker room between periods, or just on an off day and hold a Pride lesson for the group when they’re down late.
There was a time in this organization’s history when being down 3 goals mid-way through the 3rd wasn’t a death sentence
This does not jibe with my experience watching this team
nor many teams around the league. The “they don’t quit” thing is more cliche than anything.

So, who's going to be Austin Rivers for the Isles tonight.
Two nights in a row for my teams maybe?

Thought Habs nearly had too many men there as well
that was a sloppy change by them.
was an icing not called

Okay but seriously
You think they didn’t try because the only got goals in the last 3 minutes? What were all those other shots about? Going through the motions?

They suck a little at zone entry with the extra man
gotta work on that. No way you should continue to be running around like that with an extra man. Also, that was a shitty no call on the icing.

BS no icing
Did anyone see Nabby open the door an almost interfere with the puck?
Take em to the jabrone-zone
They actually played far better tonight than last game.

Looks like it
Looks like they missed a lot of shots too so possession should look much better.

That was a frustrating loss..
This team is enigmatic to say the least…
Way I look at it is
Hey, should’ve gotten the shit kicked out of us in Philly and won, but everyone was happy and talking playoffs. In this game, play pretty well and lose, and I have to confiscate shoelaces and belts.
These things happen. Still on a decent run, and hey, they struck quick etc. In the end, it’s always the W/L that blinds to the quality of the game. There’s no way anyone should’ve been happy with Philly other than “thank god we got points there, we played like shit”.

Yeah i was actually thinking we were outplaying them going into the 2nd intermission
Stopped watching after the Gomez goal but then i saw that the comeback was taking place lol Definitely a better effort than in Philly but hey thats how hockey works, sometimes you lose the games you deserve to win and you win the ones you dont
"Mario Lemiuex… I used to respect you."- Turgeon1992
I was thinking the same thing...
They need to start scoring goals…Seems our shooting % isnt very good…
To quote the anonymous GM
“The hardest part of the job is convincing players they played poorly after a win and played well after a loss.”
With fans, increase that by a factor of 10.

Lack of desperation.
Its a 60 minute game boys. Gotta hit the net more. Sure Price made some big saves but we have to show a will to score each shift. Too many poor decisions and missed nets. A 170 minute scoring drought is just inexplicable. Very curious to see what kind of lineup we will have on Saturday. Frustrated mini-rant over.
PS Can someone explain how we keep giving up the first goal of the game on the first shot? How many times is that? That has to be a record and if it isn’t we’re close.
Oh, and that icing non-call.
What. The. Fudge. No explanation on that and there never will be. That’s a faceoff in enemy territory with a good chunk of time left in a one goal game. (sigh)
