Where's Wallace? Claimed by Lightning on Waivers. UPDATE: Casey Cizikas Recalled.

You're friends now.

**Afternoon update: Casey Cizikas has been recalled. Aaron Ness and Kevin Poulin have been returned. Travis Hamonic and Evgeni Nabokov are back as expected.**

At last we have a conclusive answer to The Wire-inspired question, "Where's Wallace?"

In Tampa Bay via Bridgeport, that's where. The Tampa Bay Lightning claimed him off waivers today.

Tim Wallace (who bears zero resemblance to the -- um, spoiler alert? -- murdered fictional 14-year-old in this century's best television show, but an NHL season is long and prompts silliness such as this) now joins a distinguished line of former Islanders from String's, I mean Snow's, crew who found new product and new work with Marlow, I mean Yzerman, in Florida.

Put on waivers for reassignment yesterday, Wallace was actually in Bridgeport for a post-practice skate today when told of the news, according to Michael Fornabaio. Fornabaio also reports there are no hints to any forward callups, if any are pending.

Star-divide

Which is not necessary, exactly -- Wallace was waived as an extra forward already and saw minimal fourth-line minutes when he did play. His departure does not hurt the Islanders directly, but he was a contributor earlier this season in Bridgeport. (Of course, the Sound Tigers have been on a tear since Jan. 1, all without Wallace, so who knows their secret.) If Wallace was to take the place in Bridgeport of a callup, they'll have to PTO or rehab their way around that.

But Wallace? With the Lightning selling off players for picks, he'll join Nate Thompson and the gang of TBL-over-NYI coverup tattoos as Steve Yzerman rides out the season with an eye on next year. It's all in the game.

I decided against linking the scene in question in the body of this post

Because it is quite f-bomb filled. But for comments section anyway: Where the F is Wallace?!

I have no idea whether that scene translates without the context of the series leading up to that point, but as an addict of the show it was a riveting moment.

FYI Kate Strang is a joke

I thought she’s supposed to be a NY Hockey reporter for ESPN? She posted the Wallace snippet and that’s her first post on the Isles in a month? Nonsense.. I mean, at least, come off like you actually cover the team. Her idea of a headline "Henrik makes a left pad save in practice" and that’ll go on the rangers blog.

Two things

1) If Caps miss playoffs, I don’t see Hunter keeping his job.

2) Hamrlik never really cared to work on his English it seems. (I don’t blame him. If I were a hockey player in Europe, I’d still be speaking poorly after 15 years. But most foreign players seem to clean up their English over time.)

I'd take him back

I never wanted him to go, frankly. And even the shell of his former shelf has got to be better than the Isles’ current bottom pair, one of whom may have been driving the Zamboni at the beginning of the season.

Anyone that can piss off Dale Hunter is welcome in my book.

I haven’t watched a lot of the Cappy’s this season, I can only watch one non-playoff team at a time, but I was in the pro-Hamrlik cap when he was with the Isles as well.

So whats with the rumors linking Jack Johnson and K.O.

If a winger was going to be moved, I’d think PAP would be in play. Is Johnson really as bad a “D” as the talk around here? Just a power play specialist?

Do you remeber how Wisniewski's defensive play? Jack Johnson makes Wiz look like a good defensive d-man.

Seriously. Jack Johnson is a sub-par #4 d-man that can put up points, from his advanced stats and completely disastrous +//- on a defensive team. And he’s got a horrible long contract. No touch. Jack Johnson is really terrible, and the only thing keeping him in the NHL is his PP production and that stupid contract. The man is terrible. Not better than A-mac/Streit/Hamonic. And in complete honesty, Wisniewski has a better contract than him. Jack Johnson is terrible and we really should slap ourselves if we trade for him, and we literally should start a riot if we trade Okposo for him, let alone PAP as a rental. He is that atrocious defensively.

Why isn't Snow making deals with Howson?

Surely a Nash for Mottau deal could be in the works. Howson likes Islander defenseman (see Martinek, the Wiz) and I’m sure we can convince him that Mottau will help to shore up Jack Johnson’s shaky defensive play,

Schenn, Simmonds, a 3rd, Johnson and a first

Not bad…considering they are a really strong defensive team anyway and that they have defense that is stuck in the pipleine, it’s a good move for them for the time being…in five years though, could be trouble.

If those guys are ridiculous again though, it may be almost impossible to get he return that Holmgren got in Philly.

I already find it somewhat hilarious that they have Richards/Kopitar down the middle and are stuggling for a playoff spot.

If they get Kopitar/Richards/Carter down the middle and can’t make the playoffs, someone needs to be fired. 3 arguably top 30 centers, all defensively responsible, all 30goal threats, all 60pt threats, and no playoffs? I think that should make Kings fans cry. I would piss myself if we ever assembled that kind of talent down the middle in the top 9.

Well, you can do what the Flyers did with Richards if you want:

3rd line 5-on-5 toi checking minutes + high PP/high PK time. That would probably be the smart move. You could probably get away with playing each of them 19-20min/gm though in different scenarios.

anyone having issues with the site?

They call it the Mausoleum, but they should call it the Insane Asylum, because that is what its like being an Islanders fan. Even so, I bleed blue and orange and always will. GO ISLANDERS!!!

Subban

Love Subban. He takes practice seriously. Can he ever skate. Would look very nice in an Islanders uniform. Might come cheapish, maybe. Would definately do straight up for PAP.

They'll never trade him, I don't think

But when I dream of fleecings, that’s the fleecing I dream of.

Wow. Just cut him off from his teammates in practice.

It’s not like he needs to practice much with them given his skillset. The man has all the o and d potential in the world, aside from average size.

What do you mean they won 4 cups in a row? Is that possible?

He's not much liked in Montreal

judging from the comments there.

I gotta admit, he’s got mad skillz. But is it worth it to have a Dman slewfooting your own forwards at practise?

What French-speaking players do we have?

by afrosupreme on Feb 23, 2012 8:49 PM EST up reply actions

None that the Isles should willingly give up

I believe it’s just Parenteau, Poulin and Hamonic for Francophone Islanders. Junior level prospect Mitchell Theoret was born in Montreal, but from what I can read, spent part of his childhood in Kitchener.

So happy for this kid. He could have folded years ago, but he stayed strong. It speaks to his quality of character.

OT but I want to state for the record

that star athletes (especially goalies in the middle of a Playoff run) should never be allowed near sharp objects.

Dustin Brown is now in play. I like him a bit.

Good second liner

He’d be a great replacement for Parenteau if PAP doesn’t re-sign, plus he has a manageable contract + length. LA is pushed up against the cap – how about Brown for PAP + 3rd pick to start?

Official choice of Lighthouse Dog #1.

by Fabtraption on Feb 23, 2012 9:42 PM EST up reply actions

He also said they might look to trade their backup goalie. Any chance Nabokov would waive the NTC to go to back up Quick in LA?

by afrosupreme on Feb 23, 2012 9:58 PM EST up reply actions

Don't know really

I guess to get scoring more scoring help? McKenzie mentioned on the Trade Centre video that they are hearing his name come up.

Why Not?

Quick has pretty much proven he’s for real.

Are we allowed to have that much physicality on our team? :-)

Here’s the advanced stats:
http://www.behindthenet.ca/nhl_statistics.php?c=0+1+3+5+4+6+7+8+13+14+29+30+32+33+34+45+46+63+67&ds=1&f3=DUSTINBROWN&f1=2011_s+2010_s+2010_p+2009_s+2009_p+2008_s+2007_s

And he’s making $3.2mil/yr for the next 2yrs. I find it weird that their young “cheaply paid” captain is on the block. I wonder what they’d want for him? Aren’t they in win now mode or are they gonna try and make a super line with 2 of Richards/Carter/Kopitar on 1 line?

Thanks for the correction.

Even when a NMC it can happen, if the guy agrees to move. True the Islanders can send him to the minors (wouldn’t clear waivers). Key point he isn’t going anywhere he doesn’t want to go.

Hey

All you armchair NHL GM’s, do you understand that tonight we are playing the rangers, who are one of the best and tougest teams in the NHL and we have the weakest bunch of wimps any islander team has ever dressed? Does that not concern you? with a fan base like you all, we deserve to get pummelled tonight in every way!

How realistic would this be?

Isles trade PA to team X
Team X sends prospects to Columbus
Columbus sends Derrick Brassard to Isles.

Been swirling in my mind the last couple of days. But can’t figure team X.

Althoug Canucks, Jets, Capitals come to mind.

Isles Reading

Islanders Schedule

1979-80

May 24, 1980: Tonelli to Nystrom. At long last, the steady build of the New York Islanders from expansion doormat to surprise semifinalist to annual contender reaches the promised land: Buoyed by a late season trade for Butch Goring that gave the team the depth up the middle GM Bill Torrey had been seeking, the Islanders knock off the Philadelphia Flyers in six games.

The victory justified the faith in coach Al Arbour who guided them from their second season to their first Stanley Cup seven seasons later. The Islanders would not be the first expansion team to win the Stanley Cup, but they would be the only one capable of a dynasty.

1980-81

May 21, 1981: This time it was much easier. After falling to "only" 91 points in the 1979-80 season, the Islanders returned to their division title tradition, piling up 110 points -- a whole 13 points over second-place Philadelphia.

Between the quarterfinals (where they beat the upstart Oilers in six games) and the finals, the Islanders reeled off eight consecutive wins -- with a four-game sweep of archrival Rangers in between. As they defeated the Minnesota North Stars in five games for their second Cup, their goal difference in the final was a combined +10.

1981-82

May 16, 1982: Another year, another landslide title. The Islanders won the Patrick Division by a whopping 26 points over the second-place Rangers, and were seven points clear of their nearest competition for the President's Trophy, the still-not-quite-ripe Edmonton Oilers.

A first-round scare against the Pittsburgh Penguins turned in the Isles' favor thanks to John Tonelli's heroics, and a true dynasty was on its way: Past the Rangers in six games, then an eight-game sweep of the Quebec Nordiques and Vancouver Canucks to run away with the Stanley Cup.

1982-83

May 17, 1983: Not so fast, whipper-snappers. The Edmonton Oilers' steadily rising challenge for league supremacy took them all the way to the finals for the first time, where the New York Islanders summarily dispatched them in a four-game sweep. For the Islanders, the Dynasty was secured. For the Oilers, it was a powerful lesson in where talent ends and the demands of playoff hockey begin.

Four years, four Cups, 16 consecutive playoff series wins (a record that would grow to 19 until the rematch with the Oilers the following year). Mike Bossy scored 60 goals yet again, and Wayne Gretzky became acquainted with Billy Smith's crease.
