50 Saves for Kevin Poulin as Bridgeport Falls in Shootout

Kevin Poulin returned to the crease to make 50 saves. - Paul Bereswill

Bridgeport "splits" the weekend in Norfolk, or more precisely takes three of a possible four points after a shootout loss Saturday night.

Bridgeport took three of a possible four points in Norfolk (even though, in shootout-era math, five points were handed out), as the Norfolk Admirals followed their loss Friday night by hurling 52 shots at Kevin Poulin.

That was enough for them to erase the Sound Tigers' 2-0 lead that lasted just 45 seconds short of two periods, force overtime, then go to eight rounds in the shootout. Defenseman Jon Landry was the only Bridgeport player to convert.

Things might've gone differently: A Colin McDonald deflection goal would have made it 3-1 but was disallowed, with McDonald accused of a high stick on the play.

Despite the loss, the several dozen saves marked a significant return to the crease for Poulin, who hadn't started in two weeks as Anders Nilsson took all the starts. At the end of his game blog, Michael Fornabaio has thoughts from coach Scott Pellerin on Poulin's performance, with a nod toward lots of work the past few weeks.

Other Notes

The Sound TIgers are back home to host the Albany Devils Wednesday. They also play Saturday at home to Adirondack in their final pre-Christmas game.
