There are guys

who would have girls fawning over them no matter what they decided ito do in life.
Malkin is NOT one of them.
If he was, some uneducated Russian kid unloading boxes at the supermarket, the chicks wearing Malkin jerseys and oogling him would be absolutely repulsed if he tried to talk to them.
It happens with hockey players, it happens with rock stars… being a success or famous or being a millionaire changes the whole game. Having all of it- being a famous successful millionaire means that you can look like Malkin and there are women who will swear you are “hot”.

Leclaire? Funny that you picked a MUCH better pic of him than, say, his headshot. The picture you selected is actually a pretty good one of him. There have been guys in the NHL who are truly UGLY… guys that there pretty much ARE no good pictures of lol. Think more along the lines of guys like Holik or Domi or Ricci or Odjick or, yes, Malkin. Maybe Blake on Jonsson if I was ignoring who they are and judging them solely on the “unloading boxes at the supermarket” thing I mentioned earlier lol. I think hockey players just arent as ugly as they used to be. You look at some of the guys who played in the 70s and OMG, they look like their faces were run over by the zamboni!

Boyle is such a weak fighter though. He's no better at fighting then the average heavyweight and he's huge.

I’ve seen him get his ass kicked many times. Hartnell would light his ass easy, Coburn already has once and Coburn doesn’t even fight.

It was fun seeing Capuano off the ice, but that might have been the worst half hour of television programming I’ve ever seen. (Especially after watching the last episode of 24/7.)

applause...

i like how they ended it (unfortunately, one of them had to win, let alone the rangers). i enjoyed the way HBO incorporated the cinematography, narration, and music together. it was fitting poetic conclusion.

watching that last episode really had me further envying the rangers with what they have and how their club is run on and off the ice. i appreciate torts the more i watch him despite his other shortcomings. he really is a good coach and he gets the most out of what he gets to work with…the rangers as a team have this aura about them that says, “we’re rockstars and we know it.” there’s gotta be something to be said about that. not only they’re actually good at what they do, but they show it off whether you like or hate them. yeah, we don’t like the rangers. the isles will always have to play second class to them, but it’s our role that’s been accepted no matter how much success the isles have had in the past. face it, the rangers are back to elite status (it’s about time sather got something right), which is why i’m hoping this rebuild moves along a little quicker and shows some more results.

overall, very fun to watch. i’m glad i got to know the rangers and flyers better, glad to know avery is still a piece of shit, hartnell is still a d-bag, talbot is still a candyass, bryzgalov is a crazy russian existentialist, there’s still no justice in NHL officiating, and the winter classic rightfully soaks up enough hype to further help the game of hockey.

Back?

face it, the rangers are back to elite status

The Rangers are technically one of the least successful teams in NHL history. To say they are “back to elite status” implies that they spent some kind of considerable time there in the first place- which is simply not the case. Since WWII they have had some good seasons here and there, one great season, and thats pretty much that. Lets not paint them out to be what they have never really been.

Let Us Go, Islanders! (Ever notice how strange that sounds without the contraction?)

Thats what i never understood about Rangers fans

The endless amount of ragging we get for being shitty. Nevermind the fact that they have one championship since WW2. That they got partly by trading/buying half the edmonton Oilers. Then in the late 90’s and early 2000’s they didnt even make the playoffs at all (like us) despite having like the highest payroll in the league. Theyve made some of the worst free agent signings in history that would destroy most teams. And 1994 wasnt even that recent! its 18 seasons ago now, no one from that team is even still in the league. Only the Rags would be proud of having one championship in 70 years. But no, were the ridiculous ones for bragging about the Dynasty era. At least that was something to be truly proud of. Not bragging about having that one great championship that kept them from being one of the biggest laughing stocks in the history of pro sports

91-92…1st, 105 pts.
93-94…won cup
94-97…made playoffs, reached semis in all 3 of those years.
05-09…made playoffs

so yeah, between 98 and 04 they didn’t do well and we all laughed at their misfortune. from 05 til now, they’ve been rebuilding and now things are starting to look good for them. so i guess it depends how you define “elite”. elite in the NHL means top tier of teams (depending on the range of current season success) in the league right now. and as of right now, they are most certainly elite.

since we’re on the topic of elite status, i’ll play devil’s advocate and as when was the last time the isles were an elite team? we all know the answer to that question. so as a hockey/islanders fan, i’m going to go ahead and eat a slice of humble pie and admit that the rangers have been a better franchise as of late. you can argue all you want. but until the isles start to show the league that they’re a top tier team, there’s nothing to talk about.

WTH does the isles status have to do with the Rangers?

Im talking about the Rags, not the Islanders.
And I have no problem acknowledging anything they accomplish… but the fact is that they havent accomplished shit was of yet. Im not as eager to presume their success before they, you know, actually have any.

I really like the rangers mix of skill guys and gritty guys throughout their lineup, their D is also very solid when healthy since McDonagh emerged and DZ matured, and Lundqvist is the best goalie in the NHL.

I think the Bruins are the only thing standing in their way from getting to the Stanley Cup Finals.

What do you mean they won 4 cups in a row? Is that possible?

Isles Reading

Islanders Schedule

1979-80

May 24, 1980: Tonelli to Nystrom. At long last, the steady build of the New York Islanders from expansion doormat to surprise semifinalist to annual contender reaches the promised land: Buoyed by a late season trade for Butch Goring that gave the team the depth up the middle GM Bill Torrey had been seeking, the Islanders knock off the Philadelphia Flyers in six games.

The victory justified the faith in coach Al Arbour who guided them from their second season to their first Stanley Cup seven seasons later. The Islanders would not be the first expansion team to win the Stanley Cup, but they would be the only one capable of a dynasty.

1980-81

May 21, 1981: This time it was much easier. After falling to "only" 91 points in the 1979-80 season, the Islanders returned to their division title tradition, piling up 110 points -- a whole 13 points over second-place Philadelphia.

Between the quarterfinals (where they beat the upstart Oilers in six games) and the finals, the Islanders reeled off eight consecutive wins -- with a four-game sweep of archrival Rangers in between. As they defeated the Minnesota North Stars in five games for their second Cup, their goal difference in the final was a combined +10.

1981-82

May 16, 1982: Another year, another landslide title. The Islanders won the Patrick Division by a whopping 26 points over the second-place Rangers, and were seven points clear of their nearest competition for the President's Trophy, the still-not-quite-ripe Edmonton Oilers.

A first-round scare against the Pittsburgh Penguins turned in the Isles' favor thanks to John Tonelli's heroics, and a true dynasty was on its way: Past the Rangers in six games, then an eight-game sweep of the Quebec Nordiques and Vancouver Canucks to run away with the Stanley Cup.

1982-83

May 17, 1983: Not so fast, whipper-snappers. The Edmonton Oilers' steadily rising challenge for league supremacy took them all the way to the finals for the first time, where the New York Islanders summarily dispatched them in a four-game sweep. For the Islanders, the Dynasty was secured. For the Oilers, it was a powerful lesson in where talent ends and the demands of playoff hockey begin.

Four years, four Cups, 16 consecutive playoff series wins (a record that would grow to 19 until the rematch with the Oilers the following year). Mike Bossy scored 60 goals yet again, and Wayne Gretzky became acquainted with Billy Smith's crease.
