Serious Question Yet To Be Posed: Will LHH & SBN's Days Be Numbered Should SOPA Pass?

I have yet to encounter any commentary concerning the impact of both Internet restriction bills upon both Lighthouse Hockey and SB Nation, at least as we've enjoyed them to date.....while I and no doubt most of you can certainly appreciate the restriction of sites that sell pirated jerseys and the like, it's absolutely unforgivable that the NHL, like the other major sports leagues, is blindly supporting acts that will severely impact our quality of life, on this site and well beyond - no more humorous links to YouTube, or Twitter copies, or even photos that have controlled images.....if these thoroughly repulsive bills are allowed to pass, our lives will become hellishly complicated and treacherous like never before - what's being said ISN'T just mere hyperbole (lest anyone think as much, have discovered that a site displaying the names of over 300 businesses that DO support them, and one I intended to include a link for within, appears to have been been taken down in the time it took to compose this FanPost).....the companies blindly endorsing SOPA and its evil twin need to be reminded, in NO uncertain terms, who and what is MOST responsible for their business - and they need to be thoroughly punished for their lapse in reason as well as objectivity.

Submitted FanPosts do not necessarily reflect the views of this blog or SB Nation. If you're reading this statement, you pass the fine print legalese test. Four stars for you.

Probably

That is the nature of SOPA and Pipa. However, right now Google and Wikipedia are fighting back and hundreds of thousands of people(including me) have signed petitions and written to congressmen and senators, so there is a good chance that it won’t do anything. For now it has been shelved, except for Pipa, but the lack of media coverage was worrying. So for now, the game is to watch and wait for supporters of SOPA and Pipa to make the next move.

For the record, SB Nation would be fine if it passed.

Though the blogs would have a lot more restrictions.

That said, it won’t pass.

i wouldnt be surprised if it did

i watched the SOPA hearings when they were held last month, and i swear, at least half of the people in congress supporting it essentially said that they truly have no clue how this would affect those who use the internet on a daily basis and have little to no idea of what an i.p address actually is

A lot has changed since then.

The congressman who proposed SOPA no longer endorses it “as is” and the white house has voiced concerns over it.

Not sure what the word is on PIPA, but the fact that theres a huge backlash from constituents AND corporations speaks volumes. Still, it doesn’t hurt to drop an email with your congressman.

Would be complete end of the blogosphere

Go to the Wikipedia home page to get links to your Senators and Congressman. Leahy, from VT has pulled back from his own bill. Last news was it would still pass the House if it comes for a vote.

Isles Reading

Islanders Schedule

1979-80

May 24, 1980: Tonelli to Nystrom. At long last, the steady build of the New York Islanders from expansion doormat to surprise semifinalist to annual contender reaches the promised land: Buoyed by a late season trade for Butch Goring that gave the team the depth up the middle GM Bill Torrey had been seeking, the Islanders knock off the Philadelphia Flyers in six games.

The victory justified the faith in coach Al Arbour who guided them from their second season to their first Stanley Cup seven seasons later. The Islanders would not be the first expansion team to win the Stanley Cup, but they would be the only one capable of a dynasty.

1980-81

May 21, 1981: This time it was much easier. After falling to "only" 91 points in the 1979-80 season, the Islanders returned to their division title tradition, piling up 110 points -- a whole 13 points over second-place Philadelphia.

Between the quarterfinals (where they beat the upstart Oilers in six games) and the finals, the Islanders reeled off eight consecutive wins -- with a four-game sweep of archrival Rangers in between. As they defeated the Minnesota North Stars in five games for their second Cup, their goal difference in the final was a combined +10.

1981-82

May 16, 1982: Another year, another landslide title. The Islanders won the Patrick Division by a whopping 26 points over the second-place Rangers, and were seven points clear of their nearest competition for the President's Trophy, the still-not-quite-ripe Edmonton Oilers.

A first-round scare against the Pittsburgh Penguins turned in the Isles' favor thanks to John Tonelli's heroics, and a true dynasty was on its way: Past the Rangers in six games, then an eight-game sweep of the Quebec Nordiques and Vancouver Canucks to run away with the Stanley Cup.

1982-83

May 17, 1983: Not so fast, whipper-snappers. The Edmonton Oilers' steadily rising challenge for league supremacy took them all the way to the finals for the first time, where the New York Islanders summarily dispatched them in a four-game sweep. For the Islanders, the Dynasty was secured. For the Oilers, it was a powerful lesson in where talent ends and the demands of playoff hockey begin.

Four years, four Cups, 16 consecutive playoff series wins (a record that would grow to 19 until the rematch with the Oilers the following year). Mike Bossy scored 60 goals yet again, and Wayne Gretzky became acquainted with Billy Smith's crease.
