10 yrs ago, Mike Peca was brought in, shortly after was named captain...and began a new era in islanders hockey. A return to respectability, a return to the playoffs. A hard fought battle with the leafs that sadly represented the end of his blooming carreer. he was never the same after that hit. subtract that hit, and you take away the pressures for yashin being the captain...with the character guys we had like Jonsson, Aucoin, Hamrlik, Parrish, Bates, And Parrish...you wonder how far that team could have went with a healthy Peca, Jonnson, a pressureless Yashin.

10 yrs later, we have hope again. What I loved in Peca, so much as still wearing #27 to games, I see in Fransy. The more i read, the more highlights i see, hes a quiet but deadly player, He is a leader, hes deserving of wearing the "C". With the hope like we had that summer going into the 2001-2002 season when critics doubted us...as we would finish 5th overall, We have hope once again. With a defense of Mark Streit, Travis Hamonic, And Amac, with a gritty core of forwards, I once again say im an islander fan without hesitation, gasp, bc I have hope.

The last great team we had was 10 yrs ago...with alot of blue collored grinders. When Batesy led the league in shorthanders, when parrish scored 30 along with Yashin and peca netted 20 something. How is this team different? Going in we have all the potential in the world. A lethal offense, blossoming stars, and diamonds in the rough.

October cant get here fast enough. Just like October 2001 couldnt had come fast enough. Maybe instead of Claude Lapoint crying that season when the isles clinched their returm...it will be marky crying.

A new season, a new captain, a new legacy. Its more than just another season. This is the start of a new chapter in Isles history. I can feel it. Like so many fellow fans.
