generation and talent

so i was reading a fanpost on whether or not we should go after stamkos with a over sheet  and some one  said  that he was a generational talent. these tags have been applied to a number of players, such as, ovekin, crosby and now stamkos. yet as i think about it i have to disagree with the premise for as good as those players are i would argue that maybe only Crosby can really fill that role.  .stamkos had a couple of great years but take it as a transplanted new yorker living in tampa, he is not that good.  he has a great shot but mark my words we will see a steady decline in production for the next couple of years.  the ability to be on top of the scoring charts year in and year out that is generational talent.  look at the big Russian in Washington.  has some spectacular years but last year he dropped off a whole lot for a seven million cap hit.  now some players have off years but if you look at him year to year you can see a lack that has been growing and growing.  watch his rookie year highlight and you see a big difference in his skating and shot.  i don't know why this growth has occurred but i assure you it has. funny thing maybe there will be no such thing as generational talent anymore.  the pace of the game has advanced so much that no man has the will to be up there every year.   maybe we are reaching the limits on what the human body can do. right now Crosby looks to be around for awhile as his game has showed any regression that i can see but the point can be made that his head problems stem from his need to be the best in the world.    who knows, just some food for thought.
