It's practically everywhere I've read, that if you had to bet on Garth Snow's pick at #5... It's going to be Dougie Hamilton. I'm preparing myself for a minor let-down for this friday's NHL Entry Draft. It's no secret I'm a SEAN COUTURIER fan. Hamilton is a very talented player. I don't want to take away anything from this kid. We all have our favorites for this friday June 24th. I think Sean Couturier is going to make his mark in the NHL. My fear is that the Senators take him at #6 and laugh all the way to the bank.
A major let-down would be taking Ryan Murphy or Ryan Strome at #5 for me. Trading down would also tick me off.
Trading the 2 second round picks to stay within the top 15 would be a great.
Trading up to draft 2nd or 3rd would be amazing.
Packaging the pick for Shea Weber would make me pass out with joy.
Getting back to the Dougie vs. Sean debate: Dougie Hamilton rose in the rankings late while Couturier fell out of favor. Why this happened? I have no clue. There isn't a negative article anywhere about Sean Couturier. Two-Way player in an offensive league. Captain. MVP of the Q. Duplicated his stats from the previous year in 10 less games. No one in this year's draft class has 2 consecutive stand-out seasons. Not in the OHL,CHL,WHL or THE Q.
While I don't think drafting Hamilton is terrible... If both are available at #5? There's no question in my mind that I would take Sean Couturier without blinking an eye. I wouldn't even have to get to the podium.
Whomever Snow chooses friday at #5 will have promise, there's no question. Maybe they both will stand out in the NHL and both become all-stars for their respective teams. I'd just rather offense than Defense.
