With the 11th pick in the 2011 LHH Mock Draft the Colorado Avalanche select from the Portland Winterhawks RW Sven Bartschi.
After picking Adam Laarson the Avs have a deadly future 1-2 defense and with Cal Pickard have a great goalie in the wings. They also have great prospects at center. According to HOckeys Future's organizational report their are only 3 wingers in the top 19 with two being numbers 18 and 19. Adding Sven to what could be a deadly defensive team would make them a better all around team in having a real good 1st line featuring Duchene and Sven along with another winger that could be drafted later or is already playing in the NHL would speed up the rebuild of this once great franchise.
Why Bartschi?
Currently ranked #7 by TSN and Scouting Central (NA Ranking). He is coming off of a fine season playing alongside Islander Prospect Nino Niederietter (damn these Swiss names not being spell checkable...) for the Portland Winterhawks in which he went (34-51-85) in 66 games while accumulating 74 PIM's. He has great hands vision and a knows how to score goals. He must over come his size 5'10 185 to become an elite player. While it may not seem small for most people playing on the first line of a team will pit him up against players like Chara and Tyler Myers who are large and could easily cause a destruction in his game plans.
