LHH Hockey Mock Draft: New Jersey Devils

LHH Editor's Note: Our LHH Mock Draft continues, our fantasy GMs bringing us through the first four picks with nyidangle17 selecting for New Jersey at number four, below:

With the 4th overall pick in the 2011 [Lighthouse Hockey Mock] NHL Entry Draft, the New Jersey Devils are proud to select from the Drummondville Voltigeurs Sean Couturier.

The big question here was do we continue to build around our defense? Or do we start looking at offense? Looking at our past two drafts we have drafted mostly defensemen. Eight of our picks in the past two drafts have been on either defenseman or goalies. It is time to start building up our offense. Now is the first time in a while where we are able to add a top end prospect to our system, and Sean Couturier is a special player we are happy to add to our organization.

Our prospect pool is filled with Wingers and defenseman, but not many centers. Our top prospect Jacob Josefson, a center, got a taste of NHL action this year, and we believe that he can be a first line center. To add Sean Couturier to our organization would give us good two good top line centers in the near future. Great teams are stong up the middle, and strong on defense. We are already strong on Defense, and now we are stronger at center.

Sean is the big center that every team wants, and we are happy to have him. At 6-4, 195 pounds, he will give us power, strength, and be another scoring threat down the middle. He has speed great offensive instincts, and is great at faceoffs. You can see his great numbers from his past season in the QMJHL. In 58 games played, he scored 36 goals, had 60 assists for 96 points. There are also the intangibles that don’t make the score sheets. He plays a physical game, hits, and is determined to get to loose pucks. All of these attributes helped him win the Michel-Briere award for the QMJHL’s Most Valuable player. He was also the only draft eligible player to make the Canadian World Juniors Roster. As the youngest player in a highly competitive tournament, he scored 2 goals, 1 assist in seven games played.
