Islanders Bits and NHL Power Rankings: Ottawa and New Jersey swap slots

John Tavares, power source.

An update to our ex-Islanders post: Check out Geneva resident Kaonashi's comment lending insight into how Richard Park, Jon Sim and even -- yes -- Jeff Toms are doing in the land of neutrality and love of banking. ... Meanwhile, there are more thought-provoking FanPosts than I can keep up with lately, but the Josh Bailey advanced stat look is one I bet external visitors will also want to gander at.

Elsewhere, Chris Hessel at NYI FYI had an interview with Ty Wishart discussing his evolution, and his impressive trade card. ... And Michael Fornabaio will be having his weekly Bridgeport chat at ConnPost.com at 1:30 p.m. EST.

In our NHL Power Rankings, Ottawa's tailspin has finally dropped them below the Islanders -- but the Isles are still 28th because the Devils' rebound has brought them up to the slot Ottawa vacated, 27th. Toronto has some breathing room above all three. At the other end of the table, Vancouver, Philadelphia and Tampa Bay remain the class nerds. As for the media rankings, I'll give you one guess what the common quip was for the Islanders this week.

Media Rankings Survey

First, in our cursory poll of how da media view things.

Outlet Rank Last Week Their Commentary
CBSSports 27 29
As if Rick DiPietro had to come up with a new, albeit creative way to get injured again.
Col. Dispatch 28 28
Rick DiPietro's star-crossed career with the Islanders has only 10 years to go.
ESPN 28 29 You know you are cursed when your goaltender goes on the disabled list after being felled by another goaltender in a one-punch fight.
Sportsnet (Brophy) 28 30 Rob Schremp pops a pair as the Islanders win an otherwise meaningless game against the Senators.
TSN
(Cullen)
27 27 With Rick DiPietro injured, rookie G Kevin Poulin has a great opportunity to prove he's ready for the NHL; of course, it would make more sense for Evgeni Nabokov to just show up and establish his credentials over the rest of the season so that he has value as a free agent in the summer.
Average 27.6 28.6 Did you hear the one about Rick DiPietro and the fight?

Real NHL Power Rankings

For reference, last week's All-Star Week power rankings post is here.

As always, these are updated through Sunday's games. Formula and calculations courtesy of our own ICanSeeForIslesAndIsles -- who is also often the one you'll find compiling FIG picks in the game thread. Explanation of how he does it is in the original post. If you have any questions about it, leave them in comments and he'll likely answer.
