There was even a discussion, however preliminary, about the possibility of Yashin playing more games in an Islanders uniform.
"About two years ago, we were talking to the Islanders," Yashin revealed. "The idea was about what it would take for me to join them late in the year and for the playoffs after my season in the KHL.The Islanders didn't make the playoffs and the idea didn't go any further.
"Let's face it, that's a long shot. A lot of things would have to work out and there would be the contract and the waiver process like Nabby had to go through. It's very complicated and I don't know if we could have pulled it off. Still, it was flattering to hear from them."

Why not?
I never gave Yash the flak that most fans gave him. Now, I don’t know all the stories about locker room stuff, and I definitely don’t think he should have been named captain, but he was a productive member of the Isles during his tenure. He’s another guy that gets blamed for his contract, but that’s not his fault.
Now, it would depend on how productive he could be. He’s out of the NHL 3 years now? And he’s 3 years older, but it couldn’t hurt to give him a look. Miro Satan is a good example of how being out of the NHL doesn’t kill you’re productivity.
his production never matched the reasonable expectations given what the Isles gave up for him
You would expect a player of his stature to consistently get around 80 points a year or more. Not sure that he did that once. Also, captain or no captain, he should have offered some veteran leadership and never did. A doubtful move now at best. I’d have to see Josh being given a serious shot at second line center and fail before I’d consider it and even then it probably wouldn’t work as he’d likely not clear waivers.
