I recently saw our [amazing] blog leaders post a poll about how the future of the 2013 Islanders will look. I have always commended these fine people that work tirelessly on our site and really put their relationships, work and other friends on hold so we can all have better information on NYIslanders. So below please do not read into what I am about to say in anyway against Dom or anyone else.

You guys are fraggin nuts. I cannot possibly be the only NYIslanders fan that has to hold it together and convince myself year after year that this team is worth my time, money and effort especially since I dont live in NY anymore. Im not thinking about 2013..I DONT WANT to think about 2013...and when I do it doesnt give me "hope" so much as it makes me consider exactly who is NOT going to be on our roster compared to whom we get to draft 1-5 AGAIN. Hope is a great thing, perhaps the best of things (as Shawshank Redemption said)..but sometimes being a NYIslanders fan is like being in Shawshank...where hope is all we have and after a while we become institutionalized..change looks great but most of us are so disillusioned that it cannot be real.

While the poll may foster some sense of future accomplishment, it is only re-enforcing the fact that we as a team are rudderless &  made fun of in every possible poll even in countries where they dont have hockey. During the NHL All Star weekend poll we finally achieved a #1 ranking!!!!! We are the #1 place NO ONE wants to play.

Now because I dont live on Long Island I have limited power to do anything about this (and Im not moving from Phoenix either). However there are 4600 facebook people that "like" the NYIslanders and I would have to think at least double that number that are either in the closet or commiserate over drinks on a Saturday night in their man-cave while convincing themselves "this will be the year". So I am forced to ask those that live on Long Island exactly how much longer are you going to do nothing about these problems. If you are one of those people that has gotten off your ass, marched down to the TOH and done something than you have my fervent apologies.

If however you are like me (and once again I live in Phoenix), it is highly unlikely that you have done anything short of yelling at the TV or your wife (husband, kids, coworkers, friends, loved ones and especially smurf fans) about these problems. So I am ranting and raving and actually quite pissed off because even though we may have gone 7-1-2 at one time..that was the FRACKIN highlight of the season so far!
