Around SBN: Now They've Screwed Spurs, UEFA Willing To Review Rule

Also interesting to note: former 4th overall pick with 15 goals this season Nikolay Zherdev has been waived by the Flyers. I'd imagine someone would pick him up.

Philly is likely setting the stage for a deadline deal

Wouldn’t mind picking up Zherdev, but I don’t know where he’d fit in. Our lines are working well right now and I wouldn’t want to louse that up.

No to Zherdev

Absolutely don’t want him. The only Russian players I want on this team are both named Kirill.

3 teams before the age of 26

The guy never seemed to stick, and his career in Columbus was well-documented as being troublesome. I don’t like when players continuously flirt with Russia when trying to negotiate an NHL contract. Hell, even Sather walked away from him after posting his second-best season in the NHL. The team already has a history of streaky Russian players – the last thing I want is another one.

Zherdev and Rivet

Despite his offensive skills, I would agree that the Isles should stay away from Zherdev.

As for Rivet, I really don’t know how he fell out of favor in Buffalo this season. On top of that, Rivet’s also the captain of the Sabres (or was, I’d gather).

I think BC loves everyone the majority dont like LOLZ

Nikky, has been said by many, to be very lazy. Something that right off the bat doesn’t work on this hard working team (not that any team wants a lazy player). I just don’t think he’d fit into our system anywhere.

I hope we either make a major wing aquisition for Tavares or keep the lines next year at:

Moulson – JT – PAP
Grabner – Nielsen – Okposo
Comeau – Bailey – Nino
Martin/Haley – Konopka – Hunter/Haley

Signed,

The isles hate schremp. They have been giving Colliton and Joensuu 3rd line/starting duties over him. He's as good as gone.

Proud Islanders fan, the organization that iced the greatest team to ever play the game and won 4 straight cups. Best overall player in the nhl right now=Pavel Datsyuk.
And never forget "The Twisted Sister-We're Not Gonna Take it Retribution Game" against the pens where we beat their ass on the scoreboard 9-3 and on the ice, getting retribution for their cheapshotting wussy asses!:

didn't say I loved him

Simply asked why someone else didn’t. If he’d cause problems in the room, then let him go.

by BCISLEMAN on Feb 23, 2011 9:57 PM EST up reply actions

Any idea why Colliton is on waivers?

Is it number or roster spots? He seemed to work well on the line with Bailey and Comeau, but not much different than Joensuu. Will simple waiver wire attrition be a factor in deciding who gets re-signed this summer?

Sarcasm is my permanent font.

That'd be my guess. Down to juniors with him.

Joensuu has been sent back down

You mean to tell me shooting the puck from 70 feet out doesn't earn us extra goals?

by Anarcurt on Feb 24, 2011 9:39 AM EST up reply actions

I agree. Colliton forechecks, wins faceoffs and kills penalties well.

JJ….uhhh….he takes up a decent amount of space? I dunno. Hopefully he grows into his potential, but from what I’ve seen so far, I’m not a big proponent of JJ.

That being said, I think JJ needs to scream out “DY-NO-MITE” after he scores.

I think it means they want to keep Haley up. Colliton is a fourth liner at best, even though he is the teams’ only right centre. It would be a bit of a surprise if he got picked up, but even if he did, not a huge loss.

Isles Reading

Islanders Schedule

1979-80

May 24, 1980: Tonelli to Nystrom. At long last, the steady build of the New York Islanders from expansion doormat to surprise semifinalist to annual contender reaches the promised land: Buoyed by a late season trade for Butch Goring that gave the team the depth up the middle GM Bill Torrey had been seeking, the Islanders knock off the Philadelphia Flyers in six games.

The victory justified the faith in coach Al Arbour who guided them from their second season to their first Stanley Cup seven seasons later. The Islanders would not be the first expansion team to win the Stanley Cup, but they would be the only one capable of a dynasty.

1980-81

May 21, 1981: This time it was much easier. After falling to "only" 91 points in the 1979-80 season, the Islanders returned to their division title tradition, piling up 110 points -- a whole 13 points over second-place Philadelphia.

Between the quarterfinals (where they beat the upstart Oilers in six games) and the finals, the Islanders reeled off eight consecutive wins -- with a four-game sweep of archrival Rangers in between. As they defeated the Minnesota North Stars in five games for their second Cup, their goal difference in the final was a combined +10.

1981-82

May 16, 1982: Another year, another landslide title. The Islanders won the Patrick Division by a whopping 26 points over the second-place Rangers, and were seven points clear of their nearest competition for the President's Trophy, the still-not-quite-ripe Edmonton Oilers.

A first-round scare against the Pittsburgh Penguins turned in the Isles' favor thanks to John Tonelli's heroics, and a true dynasty was on its way: Past the Rangers in six games, then an eight-game sweep of the Quebec Nordiques and Vancouver Canucks to run away with the Stanley Cup.

1982-83

May 17, 1983: Not so fast, whipper-snappers. The Edmonton Oilers' steadily rising challenge for league supremacy took them all the way to the finals for the first time, where the New York Islanders summarily dispatched them in a four-game sweep. For the Islanders, the Dynasty was secured. For the Oilers, it was a powerful lesson in where talent ends and the demands of playoff hockey begin.

Four years, four Cups, 16 consecutive playoff series wins (a record that would grow to 19 until the rematch with the Oilers the following year). Mike Bossy scored 60 goals yet again, and Wayne Gretzky became acquainted with Billy Smith's crease.
