In these days of fans on the ledge (fortunately on LI developers can't build anything tall, so there is no danger), we hear talk about who should be released, who should be benched, who should be traded and who should/shouldn't have been drafted. It is during times like this, as well as the trading deadline time period, and of course entry draft time that I have often wondered:
Do fans really, and I mean TRULY, believe that they could be a GM of an NHL team?
Now I know it is part of the fun (??) of being a fan to have opinions, which are never held to any public accountability, but nevertheless, stating these opinions is part of the fun of being a fan. But how many believe that their opinions are grounded in hockey knowledge and hockey business knowledge to the extent that they could be of value to an NHL team?
I'll go first. I have many hockey related opinions, I have been a hockey fan my entire life, and even played a little little bit. I am a successful business guy, and I would like to believe I am pretty smart. However, I know that I could not and should not be a GM...I don't know the nuances of the NHL, drafting, player development needs and realities, internal relations among and between players, agents, and coaches etc. etc. etc. So, NO, I never could be a GM...but it's fun to have opinions...open question---anyone else?
