When asked if Okposo is sitting bc team has played well or if something else, Capuano said: “little of both.” Cryptic. Sounds like a message

Capuano did say, however, that Okposo and him had a chat this morning and he will return to the lineup shortly

you have to wonder

if there has been an injury issue with KO that they just wanted to give a bit more time to

the team tends not to want to talk about injuries unless they have to

speaking of injuries, how bizarre that both Komi & Nabby are out for 3 weeks now – if that Bailey + Nabby for Komi rumor was true – its obviously off for now – and we are stuck with Young Josh

by Cary K on Nov 19, 2011 2:39 PM EST up reply actions

I dont think this is a physical issue with Kyle at all.

Seems purely mental to me.

Absolutely.

Im hoping this could be very good for Kyle.
This isnt about one game (or two or three) this is about getting him on the right track for a good season and onward.

I find it crazy and typical Islander fashion

that out of a much-maligned three-goaltender situation the first several weeks of the season, that DP comes out as the healthier goaltender.

Until…….

What the fish, stick?

by Homey Chives on Nov 19, 2011 10:58 AM EST reply actions

As a wonderful sub-plot

tonight, we send the most injured goaltender of all time into battle against the goaltender-hunting Bruins. The stage is set quite well. Now if the Islanders can win while DP kicks the crap out of Lucic, it will be a storybook ending.

yes this will be interesting

considering the last meeting b/t these two teams, and the Islander’s sensitivity concerning their goaltender’s health. This game will be another marker in the season as to how the Islanders respond to a physical team.

by Jones79 on Nov 19, 2011 11:28 AM EST up reply actions

Headlines "DP no longer a pussy, KO's lucic in brawl win vs Bruins".

DP Interview “I told you guys Brent Johnson just got lucky because I didn’t know he was a lefty. If I knew Johnson was a lefty, he’d have left that fight with a black eye just like Lucic did tonight.”

“And I want to thank all the fans for supporting me. It’s been a journey, but this support means so much. Thanks everyone”.

What do you mean they won 4 cups in a row? Is that possible?

Curious

Still very curious about the Okposo situation. What is the issue with Okposo sitting for a third straight game? Does this hinder the Islanders offensively and defensively? Who is set to sit next – Comeau, Rolston or Bailey? I can’t wait for these guys to just wake the fuck up.

by Fabtraption on Nov 19, 2011 11:03 AM EST reply actions

Good point

For Okposo to be effective, he needs to be a physical presence and for the Islanders to play with the Bruins they need a physical forwards. For this couch-sitting coach, I would think that this would be the game to suit up Okposo and unleash his pent-up frustration.

by Jones79 on Nov 19, 2011 11:29 AM EST up reply actions

Comeau too

I feel like the same sentiment can be applied to Comeau – two physical forwards who have not been using their physicality enough.

Not sure

I didn’t use HTML, so it no tags should be left open. Also, this story is only randomly showing up on the front page for me, but when it does, the entire front page is bolded.

May just be an SBN glitch.

I think I fixed it

It has to do with the “Chat” version of the FanShot, which is very not self-explanatory. (There’s the one section for “description” and one for “chat” within the same template.

Me, too.

But he was a backup just last week- when he didnt ‘have’ to be. I think this seems very minor and that they are- smartly- not putting him in a position where he might get hurt coming in cold if somethings nagging him a bit. Im glad about that.

If this doesn't wake up okposo, nothing will.

3games scratched and a coach meeting.

Time for DP to show what he’s got tonight against a tough challenege! At least mottau can’t screw stuff up, so we should be a tad better on the D costing goal mistakes tonight.

Trade Coming or At Least Under Heavy Discussion?

It’s not worth speculating who, but I they may be close to changes.

No trade necessary

After you move one of the goalies, bring up Ullstrom and Wishert. Put Mottau on waviers and when he goes unclaimed, send to Bridgeport)

Alright let me rephrase that

We only make trades at the deadline or trades that involve receiving a draft pick or non NHL player. dispute that one I dare ya.

Wisniewski is not a non-NHL player.

Isles traded for him last season when they needed a dman.

Isles Reading

Islanders Schedule

1979-80

May 24, 1980: Tonelli to Nystrom. At long last, the steady build of the New York Islanders from expansion doormat to surprise semifinalist to annual contender reaches the promised land: Buoyed by a late season trade for Butch Goring that gave the team the depth up the middle GM Bill Torrey had been seeking, the Islanders knock off the Philadelphia Flyers in six games.

The victory justified the faith in coach Al Arbour who guided them from their second season to their first Stanley Cup seven seasons later. The Islanders would not be the first expansion team to win the Stanley Cup, but they would be the only one capable of a dynasty.

1980-81

May 21, 1981: This time it was much easier. After falling to "only" 91 points in the 1979-80 season, the Islanders returned to their division title tradition, piling up 110 points -- a whole 13 points over second-place Philadelphia.

Between the quarterfinals (where they beat the upstart Oilers in six games) and the finals, the Islanders reeled off eight consecutive wins -- with a four-game sweep of archrival Rangers in between. As they defeated the Minnesota North Stars in five games for their second Cup, their goal difference in the final was a combined +10.

1981-82

May 16, 1982: Another year, another landslide title. The Islanders won the Patrick Division by a whopping 26 points over the second-place Rangers, and were seven points clear of their nearest competition for the President's Trophy, the still-not-quite-ripe Edmonton Oilers.

A first-round scare against the Pittsburgh Penguins turned in the Isles' favor thanks to John Tonelli's heroics, and a true dynasty was on its way: Past the Rangers in six games, then an eight-game sweep of the Quebec Nordiques and Vancouver Canucks to run away with the Stanley Cup.

1982-83

May 17, 1983: Not so fast, whipper-snappers. The Edmonton Oilers' steadily rising challenge for league supremacy took them all the way to the finals for the first time, where the New York Islanders summarily dispatched them in a four-game sweep. For the Islanders, the Dynasty was secured. For the Oilers, it was a powerful lesson in where talent ends and the demands of playoff hockey begin.

Four years, four Cups, 16 consecutive playoff series wins (a record that would grow to 19 until the rematch with the Oilers the following year). Mike Bossy scored 60 goals yet again, and Wayne Gretzky became acquainted with Billy Smith's crease.
