Back from Game. Quick Thoughts:
= Tavares looked physically strong in the 1st (even gave a good check) and then looked off-balance a few times. Skate issues? Drove to net a few times. Good.
+ Cizikas drew the first penalty, which led to the 5-on-3 goal.
+ Montoya. Nice lateral movement on 2-on-1.
- Nabokov. Too deep in net for first two goals. (First goal was a great shot, but just inside of faceoff dot angle.)
+ Streit +
+ A few 1/4 and 1/2 COZOs. He’s cutting them down.
+ Hamonic let 2 or 3 blasts go.
+ Eaton’s positional play looked good— angles and gaps. Looked pretty good with Reese (sp?)

Another good thing
It was very noticeable players on both team were being careful not to drill opponents from behind into the boards. Hoping it somewhat carries over into the regular season.

Just got back from the game myself
Crowd was at least 60% Boston (I was surprised mostly CT plates)
My +/-
+ Sell out – Bridgeport Arena did a great job for this game. Had a bagpipe group playing in the corridors, local choirs singing both US & Canadian anthems, free give aways, etc
+ Tavares looked strong, playing way better defense this year.
+ FnGO line looked good (Although KO missed the net a couple more times)
+ Montoya sharp
+ Como did a 3/4 COZO that lead to Reasoner goal
+ Hamonic Played solid & consistent all night
+ Haley wins another fight
+/- Nabokov started out making some incredible saves. But then things fell apart. There were some defensive breakdowns, but on the game winner he was clearly beaten. He was definitely tested more than Montoya.
+ Cizikas hustled, but you can see he needs a lot more experience
- AMac looked very rusty (to be expected)
- PA, so-so game. I like PA, but the first line needs a more dynamic player
- Bailey was inconsistent. Twice he gained the zone and then reversed, losing the puck.
As they get ready for the season, the defense really worries me.
Cool for Bridgeport
I hope they can do this again — it just makes sense, with the proximity and ties of the fanbases. With the Islanders owning the team and managing the arena now, I’d think it’s a win-win.
KO’s misfires made me anxious that instead of hitting posts, he’s going to be hitting glass.

At long last, the steady build of the New York Islanders from expansion doormat to surprise semifinalist to annual contender reaches the promised land: Buoyed by a late season trade for Butch Goring that gave the team the depth up the middle GM Bill Torrey had been seeking, the Islanders knock off the Philadelphia Flyers in six games.
The victory justified the faith in coach Al Arbour who guided them from their second season to their first Stanley Cup seven seasons later. The Islanders would not be the first expansion team to win the Stanley Cup, but they would be the only one capable of a dynasty.

May 21, 1981: This time it was much easier. After falling to "only" 91 points in the 1979-80 season, the Islanders returned to their division title tradition, piling up 110 points -- a whole 13 points over second-place Philadelphia.
Between the quarterfinals (where they beat the upstart Oilers in six games) and the finals, the Islanders reeled off eight consecutive wins -- with a four-game sweep of archrival Rangers in between. As they defeated the Minnesota North Stars in five games for their second Cup, their goal difference in the final was a combined +10.

May 16, 1982: Another year, another landslide title. The Islanders won the Patrick Division by a whopping 26 points over the second-place Rangers, and were seven points clear of their nearest competition for the President's Trophy, the still-not-quite-ripe Edmonton Oilers.
A first-round scare against the Pittsburgh Penguins turned in the Isles' favor thanks to John Tonelli's heroics, and a true dynasty was on its way: Past the Rangers in six games, then an eight-game sweep of the Quebec Nordiques and Vancouver Canucks to run away with the Stanley Cup.
