Ryan gave into contract negotiations, 5-year deal
I'm actually porting OzzyFan's FanPost over into this FanShot (I don't want the FanPosts cluttered up with news on other teams if we can avoid it). So here's Ozzy's take, pasted from there:
Since Ryan had little leverage and the ducks wouldn't budge on giving Ryan 3 years or less like he'd hoped, Ryan was forced to sign a contract longer then he'd like or holdout. And he decided to sign. The terms are 5yrs/25.5mil.
Ryan gets paid well, but hits the free agent market later then he'd like. Now instead of at the age of 25/26, he hits the market at age 28. Ryan never said he wanted his career to end in Anaheim, and we all know he is highly likely going to the highest bidder at the end of this contract.
I expected Anaheim to cave in on his demands, but since Anaheim had the ball in their court, they made him sign a 5yr deal or sit out the season. Just letting you guys know if you didn't.
