Islanders-Bruins prospect games; Snow on life as GM
Weekend bits to chew on: Garth Snow is asked a lot of the questions you'd want to ask a goalie-turned-GM in a nice interview posted at New England Hockey Journal. It spans the current rebuild to long-term contracts -- standard response on that one -- to any questions on life as a GM. (Will we see the day where the fantasy GM function in EA Sports games includes arranging travel for prospects and re-reading the CBA every time you prep a move?)
Speaking of prospects, you may have seen the roster for the Islanders rookie games in Boston next month with the Bruins, Sept. 15 and 16. Admission to both games -- at [bank-like substance] Garden in Boston -- is $5, but they're on Wednesday and Thursday nights.
For discussion purposes, I've reposted the roster after the jump. By my count, it includes 7 players who saw time with AHL Bridgeport last season, as well as pretty much all of the North America-based, non-college prospects Islanders fans are dying to see. Just thirty days until then, people. Thirty days.
As for the orphans: Corey Syvret was a 2007 Panthers pick who they let walk, but who got a few games with their AHL affiliate (Rochester) last year. Justin Taylor is a smallish center, a 2007 Capitals pick who played out his junior years with London, where John Tavares had a cup of coffee in his draft year.
Those two were signed by Bridgeport this summer, whereas Alex O'Neil is undrafted and ... well his Brampton stat line indicates what his strength is with his listed 5'11", 194 lb. frame.

Haven't seen the Bruins' roster for this game yet. Think they'll put Tyler Seguin out there, or has he already moved on to brighter things?

Too bad the college kids are not available
Pretty exciting to see this much depth in the organization! I can see a lot of these kids having NHL careers. Add Clark, Gregoire, Lee, Nelson, Trivino and our forward lines look like a future NHL roster.
Nearly enough defensemen to last through the injury bug
Any way to watch the game online
Thinking it will be on islanders.com
Dont know
but that would be great.
Im thinking that NESN might show it, since their OMG draft pick will be playing in the game.
If its on NESN, then it will be streamed somewhere (officially or otherwise) for us.
Let Us Go, Islanders! (Ever notice how strange that sounds without the contraction?)

Good point, C.....
…..thinking about attending if I can swing it; may ask my friend Dave if he wants to go as the tickets are SO affordable…..anybody from this here site also thinking about going?
Addendum.....the ticket proceeds go to.....
…..‘charity’ (i.e., the Boston Bruins Foundation, whatever THAT is) but it might mean Ticketmaster won’t have its usual ridic service charges tacked on….and, of course, you can get them directly at the Garden, starting this Thursday at 10 AM….
Boston Games
Ugh… it may cost me my marriage, but i have GOT to find a way to get to one of these games in Boston! I have to.
www.7thwoman.blogspot.com Updated almost as often as PointBlank, but not quite.
If I go, Dee.....
…..it’s looking like it’ll be the Thursday match as my friend will be right across the street from the Garden beforehand (doing voiceovers) and has expressed an interest in checking the game out…..if you do too, do you want to try and coordinate?
Excited to see de Haan and Dehart together
de Haan cause of his return from injury, and to see how well these two play together because the Islanders didn’t have to spend a pick on Dehart.
Dominik signed me for 20 years, and all I got was a press conference and a voided contract...
Contributor to Lighthouse Hockey not sure if I'm the Sniper or the Enforcer.
Will de Haan be healthy enough to participate in the game? There haven’t been any articles about progress of Petrov being bought out in the KHL. Will he be able to attend that game? Doesn’t the KHL start earlier than the NHL?
It is official, I am moving back to Long Island in about 2-3 weeks.

The KHL season start earlier, but only by a week or so I believe. If the Isles weren’t confident he wouldn’t be able to participate in the game, they wouldn’t have included him on the roster.
As for De Haan, he was skating at the prospect camp but not participating in the contact drills. It should be interesting at the very least to see how he reacts to contact for the first time since his surgery.
There are few things in this world I enjoy more than the English getting beaten like a rented mule.

Dave beat me to it
But on the bright side, I might be at both games if I get some money that’s supposed to be coming my way.

It would be funny if we end up with a Quasi LHH get together in Boston of all places.

That would be stellar
Hmm…I should probably figure out when my trips are this season…was thinking home opener, but maybe the first weekend in December (Sunday vs. Flyers, Friday at Killing Joke) is the way to go.
Lighthouse Hockey: More defensemen than we know how to spell.
There's another 1/3 of my cup...
on that roster…. or pretty damn close to it
If anybody finds out about a site streaming the game, please make it public here.
I hope they can do something about size and depth on D at some point this season… They have addressed immediate depth… but organizationally… not so much. Beyond this roster I think Donovan is the only kid showing any promise.
Any insight on that?
My cup is 3/4 empty, How 'bout yours?
I'm going
I’m heading to TD Bank North of America Garden for the Thursday game. Just bought the tickets. My wife gave me the final push, saying “it’s just 5 bucks, so I was sold.”
I live out in Western Mass these days, a short drive north of Springfield, MA. And I’ve been resigned to watch NCAA UMASS Minutemen Hockey the past six years, after my stint working for the Falcons flamed out when they hired a new Media relations person.
The last time I saw the Islanders play in person Chara was still patrolling the blue line and learning how to skate.
Come over if you want to say hi, I’m the tall blond-kid with a pony tail, wearing a tavares t-shirt. Also, the seats are GA so if a LHH contingent does show up everyone can sit together. See you there!

Excellent!
Thanks for sharing. Hopefully some other people make it.

Game Recap
I’ll get some photos and dust off my reporting skills and get a game recap for the website when I get back from the game.
I’ll try and get there early enough to get line combos, etc.
