You said in the last thread

that you were rooting for the Aliens in V…
Anna is their leader. And she sucks, with her stupid egg army and all that.

oh, lol, well yeah, but i dont actually watch that show, if they couldnt find a cameo for robert englund (or beastmaster for that matter) after his fantastic performance in the original, then i cant be bothered :-)

True.....

….Robert absolutely does rock (even if I’m not a fan of the Elm Street movies, one of the niest guys in the biz) and I always liked Faye Grant a lot (she and Dinah Manoff look SO much like their mother Lee, but now I’m just dating myself again!) – Julia is a very nice replacement for her, though…..Jane Badler as Diana? Hmmmmm…..liked Diana’s hair helmet better than Anna’s pixie, I’ll say.

but yea, anna’s pretty hot, and lizards got long tongues right? so what’s not to root for

SPEAKING of Father Jack; with the exception of.....

…..‘Taken’ (GOD, he was a slimebag in that!) I’ve been a big fan of Joel Gretsch (whose father-in-law is actually William Shatner) for a while now; STILL wish NBC had done something more to better wrap up ‘The 4400’…..

totally agree, nbc/universal blows when it comes to sticking with shows, it’s why i’m worried with White Collar and Warehouse 13, after 4400 and Dead Zone and Surface and then they let Heroes jump the shark after 15 episodes instead of letting Sylar vs Peter fuel the series like the fans wanted

Universal in general is.....

…..obtuse/clueless (holding large amounts of music and music video material hostage for reasons known only to themselves) but I thought “The Dead Zone” ended comparatively well (aside from no Kristen Dalton the last 3 seasons:( Not so Surface – and there are STILL active petitions trying to get NBC or SyFy to do a resolving movie after 3 years! Was deeply dissatisfied with the way “The 4400” ended – thought they could’ve done SO much more with Billy Campbell…..

As for the current crop of USA shows, they seem to be handling “Psych” about as well as “Monk” (which isn’t bad) Boemer and DeKay have vitalized “White Collar” from the start and “Royal Pains” is, well, “Royal Pains” – even with its Hamptons-based backdrop, it is still somehow managing to avoid being vacuous but I think that’s largely due to Feurstein…..the forthcoming Piper Perabo vehicle (the name of which presently escapes me) appears to be basically an “Alias” retread, ESPECIALLY seeing how much PP resembles Jennifer Garner, “In Plain Sight” seems to have been quite marginalized (one more season at most, I’d bet) and Goldblum has reengergized “L & O:CI” admirably after what might’ve been the fatal loss of DiNozio…..“Eureka” and “Warehouse 13” seem to be doing OK but “Caprica” won’t likely be brought back from oblivion (wasn’t a bad show at all based upon my 2 viewings of it, but wasn’t’ clearly linked tightly enough to the ‘BSG’ heritage for a LOT of people, I suspect – reminded me of DS9 in tone, which comes as no surprise with the creators. “Heroes”? Haven’t watched that since the first season on a regular basis…..

by ogam5 on Jul 4, 2010 12:55 PM EDT up reply actions

honestly i never watched pysch, monk, royal pains, alias, in plain sight, eureka, or l&oci, the piper perabo show is called Covert Affairs, and i’ll watch cuz i’m a fan
but i’m not expecting anything great…

i know they send salt to nbc still on the anniversary of the cancellation of Surface (lol) but there was no reason to cancel it when you can send these shows to Syfy instead of airing reruns of Ghost Whisperer and Joan of Arcadia, or instead of them making so many syfy original movies (even though i love bad b-movies, lorenzo lamas and debbie gibson in Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus was still hard to watch)
and yes the shark jumps like 1000 feet out of the water to eat a plane

Guess THAT'd be called.....

…..‘sharking the jump’! And if you liked that movie, then you’ll LOVE something similar on SyFy with Debbie Gibson vs. TIFFANY in the near future…..yes, I’m SERIOUS…..

yeah i’ve heard, lol (and i dont care what she wants, she’ll never be Deborah to me)

Anna? Is that a tennis reference?

……been so long since Federov’s Anna last played (or at least I heard about it, anyhow) I’ve even forgotten her last name! You know how the memory starts to go after 40…..

AHHHHHHH......

…..thank you for clarifying, C! As for the OTHER Anna (of South Beach) did remember her name is ‘Kournikova’ – WITHOUT the benefit of this AM’s green tea…..

Quiet day?

Los Angeles Kings general manager Dean Lombardi told the Los Angeles Times today that untrestricted free agent left wing Ilya Kovalchuk has turned down his team’s contract offer. Thats not exactly quiet.

by Judgegavel on Jul 4, 2010 8:05 PM EDT reply actions

Certainly quiet in an “Ilya’s not making any decisions” sort of way. Guess LA will go for Gagne.

I love the contrast of importance for hockey: Canada Day is a holiday and annual free agent extravaganza, while U.S. Independence Day is cause for GM’s to say, “Whoa, guys, can we take the day off and pick this stuff back up tomorrow?”

Are they taking two days?

as today is actually the business day off.

Apparently it was the BBQ, beer and fireworks on the actual 4th that was just too much to pass up.

Isles Reading

Islanders Schedule

1979-80

May 24, 1980: Tonelli to Nystrom. At long last, the steady build of the New York Islanders from expansion doormat to surprise semifinalist to annual contender reaches the promised land: Buoyed by a late season trade for Butch Goring that gave the team the depth up the middle GM Bill Torrey had been seeking, the Islanders knock off the Philadelphia Flyers in six games.

The victory justified the faith in coach Al Arbour who guided them from their second season to their first Stanley Cup seven seasons later. The Islanders would not be the first expansion team to win the Stanley Cup, but they would be the only one capable of a dynasty.

1980-81

May 21, 1981: This time it was much easier. After falling to "only" 91 points in the 1979-80 season, the Islanders returned to their division title tradition, piling up 110 points -- a whole 13 points over second-place Philadelphia.

Between the quarterfinals (where they beat the upstart Oilers in six games) and the finals, the Islanders reeled off eight consecutive wins -- with a four-game sweep of archrival Rangers in between. As they defeated the Minnesota North Stars in five games for their second Cup, their goal difference in the final was a combined +10.

1981-82

May 16, 1982: Another year, another landslide title. The Islanders won the Patrick Division by a whopping 26 points over the second-place Rangers, and were seven points clear of their nearest competition for the President's Trophy, the still-not-quite-ripe Edmonton Oilers.

A first-round scare against the Pittsburgh Penguins turned in the Isles' favor thanks to John Tonelli's heroics, and a true dynasty was on its way: Past the Rangers in six games, then an eight-game sweep of the Quebec Nordiques and Vancouver Canucks to run away with the Stanley Cup.

1982-83

May 17, 1983: Not so fast, whipper-snappers. The Edmonton Oilers' steadily rising challenge for league supremacy took them all the way to the finals for the first time, where the New York Islanders summarily dispatched them in a four-game sweep. For the Islanders, the Dynasty was secured. For the Oilers, it was a powerful lesson in where talent ends and the demands of playoff hockey begin.

Four years, four Cups, 16 consecutive playoff series wins (a record that would grow to 19 until the rematch with the Oilers the following year). Mike Bossy scored 60 goals yet again, and Wayne Gretzky became acquainted with Billy Smith's crease.
