Around SBN: Bob Sapp Denies Throwing Fights

Despite our good-fun hype, with just 44 games (7-18-25) last year Schremp's bargaining position to get a bigger raise or longer term above his qualifying offer wasn't that great.

Kohn remains in the blueline depth pool, while Schremp gets another year to show he's past the knee surgery and can be a consistent member of the Islanders' potentially crowded lineup at center.

Neilsen + Schremp + Parentau =

All new meaning to playing for the shootout. These three would give any goalie the jitters preparing for the shootout.

why does everyone have Parentau making the team

I see his name put in all over the place, I am not even sure he breaks camp

A one way deal will do that

Let Us Go, Islanders! (Ever notice how strange that sounds without the contraction?)

Not really...

considering it has the euro out clause, and that he makes very little. I think its just because he has more talent than most of our boat load of fourth liners we seem to be collecting.

It was a fun little comment, as he is good in the shootout. It doesn’t mean I think he’s automatically making the team.

The Isles have to be pretty confident he will make the team though. Otherwise they wouldn’t have included the Euro out clause in his contract.

There are few things in this world I enjoy more than the English getting beaten like a rented mule.

Wouldn’t it be the opposite? If you plan on him being a part of the team, why give him an out clause meaning he can leave?

The Euro out clause is only if he gets demoted to Bridgeport. If he makes the Islanders, the clause is null and void.

ahh, that makes sense.

Actually it to their benefit...

if he doesn’t make the team, I don’t think they really would want him in BP, prefer him opting to Europe if another NHL team doesn’t take him off their hands.

by Judgegavel on Aug 3, 2010 8:01 PM EDT up reply actions

I dont think so...

I think he just got better offers in Europe, but settled for less from the isles because he wanted to stay in the NHL. If he doesn’t make the NHL, would make sense for him to go to europe for better money, no lose situation for the Isles to throw it in.

Note my fanshot about Rob Schremp Hockey

one of the NHL’s best puckhandlers per Fanhouse.

Gordon Believes....

Scott Gordon whose resume includes Asst Coach USA Olympics, 2008 PlanetUSA AHL All Star team and assistant 2009 U.S. Men’s National Hockey Team…believes in Schremp from what He saw in the Bruin’s org. Needless to say I am going to give him the benefit of the doubt on this one.

Great job...

love his attitude and hustle not to mention that sweet Rob Schremp hockey.

Gotta love how this extra depth works for the Isles

Should any of these guys have a little controversey for a roster spot that means someone can be dealt. Hopefully they put on a good show and we can get another second rounder.

We are still at the cap floor with all these extra guys so that means picks and prospects can come back while we sign our core to long term deals.

by Chickendirt on Jul 15, 2010 7:23 PM EDT reply actions

like this, both guys have something to offer

Schremp has all the tools, and showed some nice momenst last season. I think if he gets time on the top 2 lines he coul ddo a lot, plus PP time. I also wonder how he might be for the PK, he could be a nice SH threat.

Kohn looked decent, a little rough but plenty of up side, especially for an extra D to fill in for stretches for an injured player.

'plus PP time'

I’m really hoping they figure out a way to make a dangerous PP this year. Schremp in the fold, JT, Streit, a returning (healthy?) Weight’s magic hands (or improving Hillen?) at the point … they should be able to put some finesse together, and have Moulson and/or maybe Martin doing front-of-the-net carnage duty.

Act now, get 2 for the price of 1

AND when a comment gets enough recs, it turns green — ooooohhh. Which helps when a thread is really big and you just want to see the best ones (assuming people rec them).

You're even better...

…than the MSOffice PaperClip! I learn something new about this blogatorium every day!
BTW: Has there been any medical updates on JT at all this summer? Is he in a boot, soft cast, hard cast, v-cast, webcast…(I could go on, but I won’t)?

He was skating last week, so I would assume that any cast, boot, or any other assorted device is off. I think he’s good to go. It was more than 6 weeks ago now, right? Not that I am a doctor (I don’t even play one on TV), but I though broken bones standard healing period was 6 weeks.

lucky leprechaun green post...gotta love it!

I should add thet Fanhouse considers him one of the NHL’s premier puckhandlers.

uTube puck dancing in the dark...

If my memory isn’t completely alcohol soaked (can’t confirm while at work) there are very similar videos of Tavares, Schremp and Kabanov doing something we all did as kids… but way more entertainingly(pretty sure I just made that word up)….
They are all spinning around dribbling the puck between their legs, inside, outside and they all have the same signature move where they bank the puck off their skates and pick it up flawlessly on the rebound…
When I used to do it I’d have to go chasing the tennis ball down Bay Parkway.

Isles Reading

Islanders Schedule

1979-80

May 24, 1980: Tonelli to Nystrom. At long last, the steady build of the New York Islanders from expansion doormat to surprise semifinalist to annual contender reaches the promised land: Buoyed by a late season trade for Butch Goring that gave the team the depth up the middle GM Bill Torrey had been seeking, the Islanders knock off the Philadelphia Flyers in six games.

The victory justified the faith in coach Al Arbour who guided them from their second season to their first Stanley Cup seven seasons later. The Islanders would not be the first expansion team to win the Stanley Cup, but they would be the only one capable of a dynasty.

1980-81

May 21, 1981: This time it was much easier. After falling to "only" 91 points in the 1979-80 season, the Islanders returned to their division title tradition, piling up 110 points -- a whole 13 points over second-place Philadelphia.

Between the quarterfinals (where they beat the upstart Oilers in six games) and the finals, the Islanders reeled off eight consecutive wins -- with a four-game sweep of archrival Rangers in between. As they defeated the Minnesota North Stars in five games for their second Cup, their goal difference in the final was a combined +10.

1981-82

May 16, 1982: Another year, another landslide title. The Islanders won the Patrick Division by a whopping 26 points over the second-place Rangers, and were seven points clear of their nearest competition for the President's Trophy, the still-not-quite-ripe Edmonton Oilers.

A first-round scare against the Pittsburgh Penguins turned in the Isles' favor thanks to John Tonelli's heroics, and a true dynasty was on its way: Past the Rangers in six games, then an eight-game sweep of the Quebec Nordiques and Vancouver Canucks to run away with the Stanley Cup.

1982-83

May 17, 1983: Not so fast, whipper-snappers. The Edmonton Oilers' steadily rising challenge for league supremacy took them all the way to the finals for the first time, where the New York Islanders summarily dispatched them in a four-game sweep. For the Islanders, the Dynasty was secured. For the Oilers, it was a powerful lesson in where talent ends and the demands of playoff hockey begin.

Four years, four Cups, 16 consecutive playoff series wins (a record that would grow to 19 until the rematch with the Oilers the following year). Mike Bossy scored 60 goals yet again, and Wayne Gretzky became acquainted with Billy Smith's crease.
