The logo for the score is massive, it blocks out play in the top 10-15% of the rink.

Orange team has Kosikinen and Blue has Nilsson right now in net

First goal was for Orange, one of the local camp invitees

They’ve interviewed JT, one of the scouts and now Morrow, and they all sound high on Petrov

Half Time

Thankfully, Kosikinen and Nilsson are insanely impressive. Only 1 goal against either of them and the game is pretty loose and wild. Rosen and someone else are going to be in the net for the 2nd half, so expect more goals.

Nino had a nice move right before the half, splitting two defenders and just barely being stopped by a 3rd player before he could take a shot.

Cizikas made a very solid pass there for the only goal. Not difficult since the defense was beat, but it was spot on and Markowitz hammered it home, nice job there.

I cannot wait for Rakh-tober.

agreed, especially as they pointed out that when Nilsson is down his legspan is post to post.

they pointed that out? I didn’t hear Chris King say one thing about the goalies being big and not being able to find a hole between either of them at all. ;)

lol, is the microphone popping and crackling for you too?

I like the interviews, but considering no one has numbers it would be nice if they actually did some play by play so you could tell whose who.

Interesting

Snow didn’t exactly rule out signing Kovy.

Garth, you cagey goalie, you…

(Snide aside: Now that the rumored NJ offer is 17 years, maybe he’s finally in our ballpark.)

Very interesting

If you made an offer and then it was pulled off the table then why be so hush hush about it. In the past Snow was straight forward about trying to get free agents and the such. ( trying to re-sign Smith.) I would think that Newsday’s sorority girl stumbled into something that maybe she jumped the gun on. If the rumor is true that the league will fight for a lower salary cap in the next collective bargaining agreement two years from now. (A few paragraphs down – http://espn.go.com/nhl/blog//name/lebrunpierre/id/5364612/what-going-ilya-kovalchuk) What team other than the Islanders who have to really make up enough to get to the cap floor and the Thrashers. Colorado is another choice but will he go there and do they want him.
-After this year we easily free up about 8 more million with Witt 3 mil and Yashin 4.7 mil. I do understand we have to sign Bailey, Okposo, Comeau but its almost like a break even at that point. I still think something is going on and Garth also hinted about obtaining a d-man via trade.

by AndyPopp on Jul 11, 2010 12:14 AM EDT up reply actions

Just to clarify, I got the feeling from Snow it was more along the lines of “If Kovy Comes to our Offer” instead of the Islanders actively throwing out offers to him. Snow knows what he is willing to sign him for and probably isn’t going to move.

of course it is

Garth’s negotiating idea, I believe, is to put it all on the table, take it or leave it.

by BCISLEMAN on Jul 11, 2010 4:11 AM EDT up reply actions

I’ve thought ,since it became apparent that Chucky wasn’t going to get what he wants from L.A. or N.J. that Garth may still be in the mix. I could see still him coming here on a short term deal.

the post I responded to made it sound as if his hit came off entirely. His hit peaks at $4.7 mil this year and drops to $2.2 mil for the remainder.

The SBNY reporter

Is saying that attendance is around 5K. I’ve been to some Isles games with less then that.

Attendance tends to reflect last years team unless your the Rangers

maybe

but you would think that attendance would be boosted with the hype—such as it was—about JT. There was certainly a lot of talk about season packages being bought up after we drafted JT.

here, I did this article about a year ago, http://www.paperstreetbrigade.com/blog/?p=4741 I graphed Attendance Vs Wins for teams that have moved and the Rangers and Devils.

A lot of the time when the teams on a downswing, the attendance is still on the upswing.

TV ratings were up.
Since more people watched them on TV last year relatively-speaking and they improved, I think they will do a bit better attendance-wise this upcoming season.

Penalty shot for his team and he convinced the fouled player to let him switch. Good hands for a big guy.

Bunch of good saves the last few minutes. I wasn’t expecting much from him considering that reports from the Flyers Prospect camp last year was that he was the worst goalie at camp.

Isles Reading

Islanders Schedule

1979-80

May 24, 1980: Tonelli to Nystrom. At long last, the steady build of the New York Islanders from expansion doormat to surprise semifinalist to annual contender reaches the promised land: Buoyed by a late season trade for Butch Goring that gave the team the depth up the middle GM Bill Torrey had been seeking, the Islanders knock off the Philadelphia Flyers in six games.

The victory justified the faith in coach Al Arbour who guided them from their second season to their first Stanley Cup seven seasons later. The Islanders would not be the first expansion team to win the Stanley Cup, but they would be the only one capable of a dynasty.

1980-81

May 21, 1981: This time it was much easier. After falling to "only" 91 points in the 1979-80 season, the Islanders returned to their division title tradition, piling up 110 points -- a whole 13 points over second-place Philadelphia.

Between the quarterfinals (where they beat the upstart Oilers in six games) and the finals, the Islanders reeled off eight consecutive wins -- with a four-game sweep of archrival Rangers in between. As they defeated the Minnesota North Stars in five games for their second Cup, their goal difference in the final was a combined +10.

1981-82

May 16, 1982: Another year, another landslide title. The Islanders won the Patrick Division by a whopping 26 points over the second-place Rangers, and were seven points clear of their nearest competition for the President's Trophy, the still-not-quite-ripe Edmonton Oilers.

A first-round scare against the Pittsburgh Penguins turned in the Isles' favor thanks to John Tonelli's heroics, and a true dynasty was on its way: Past the Rangers in six games, then an eight-game sweep of the Quebec Nordiques and Vancouver Canucks to run away with the Stanley Cup.

1982-83

May 17, 1983: Not so fast, whipper-snappers. The Edmonton Oilers' steadily rising challenge for league supremacy took them all the way to the finals for the first time, where the New York Islanders summarily dispatched them in a four-game sweep. For the Islanders, the Dynasty was secured. For the Oilers, it was a powerful lesson in where talent ends and the demands of playoff hockey begin.

Four years, four Cups, 16 consecutive playoff series wins (a record that would grow to 19 until the rematch with the Oilers the following year). Mike Bossy scored 60 goals yet again, and Wayne Gretzky became acquainted with Billy Smith's crease.
