New jersey? No not the place...
Didn’t see any post about this so I figured I’d trow it in here.
I was under the impression the blue was going to go back to the old royal, but they kept the new blue. Also when did they change the home jersey, to the same style, I thought it was just going to be the classic third, but on the NYI site they KO in a home version in the dark blue?
I actually really like both by the way, prefer the dark blue to the royal, but the style is better than last years.
they kept the new blue
no they didnt, the new white uses the same royal blue as the third from last season.

My bad it looks so dark, I cant find a decent picture of it.
by the way is it me or is the Isles official site one of the worst sports web site around.
I saw them in person at the draft party, they looked gorgeous.
Modern digital pics have all sorts of effects to equalize color or whatever, to brighten skin tones and things like that, so dont go just by that. In person, they were exactly what we hoped they would be! :)

So...
The classic third now becomes our home jersey right? If so will we have a third jersey, would love for them to bring back a variation of the Orange as a third.
Right. Isnt that fantastic? Our boys are gonna look great every night.

Its the same as every other NHL site, but I’ve always hated the NHL team sites since the NHL forced them all to go to one format.
The Swiss are Coming, The Swiss are Coming!
IMO they improved on that considerably with the “Islanders Authorized” posts.

I can't believe he lasted until then...
I knew he wouldn’t go in the first, but in the third this could be an all time pick.
Cant believe someone else didn’t take the chance.
Cannot believe he stayed around that long.
So much upside there. I’m surprised no team picked him up in the second. Still no defensemen but how can you pass on this opportunity?
I don't think you can.
Such a talent. Such a Lindross (or is that Albatross?) around his neck in terms of an idiot father. Good on Garth for taking a chance.
Remember two years ago when this would have had some of us calling for the backup goalie to be fired?

Yup. That attitude has certainly dwindled away, hasnt it!

I think the lack of drafted D-men means Garth will be active this free agency on the blue line or has a lot of confidence in his prospects
Confidence in the Prospects.
De Haan and Harmonic are both blue chips, then you have Ness and Kohn, along with MacDonald being an NHL talent and Reese as a possibility.
The Swiss are Coming, The Swiss are Coming!
I thought the same thing but after saying that he aims for the playoffs this season you have to believe that he is going to get some big FA’s. July 1st could be exciting for the Isles for a change.
Islander season begins today. Here's to a stronger December. Now go get Gudbranson, Snow, and give me my free tickets.

I just think he needed one more big talented D
and he had him at #30 if he’d drafted Jon Merrill. I like Nelson, but still think Merrill would have been better. If you’d told me that Garth could have drafted Nino, Merrill, and Kabanov in this draft without moving any major assets, I think my response would have involved pigs and flight.
Totally. The Isles got three first rounders this draft, using a 1st, two 2nds, and a 3rd round pick.

Sure, where else is he going to play I think he burned all his bridges in the KHL
its just whats going to happen when he gets here.
Didn’t someone mention Krill Kabanov as one of their picks to be drafted by us?
Sorry guys, I got suckered into watching the end of Heat, I figured I had some time to kill before our pick.
His NHL Prospect Page http://www.nhl.com/ice/draftprospectdetail.htm?csid=615600
The Swiss are Coming, The Swiss are Coming!
Any idea why he dropped? His Midterm ranking was 15th and he dropped to 31st, and dropped another 30 spots in the draft. Thats crazy.
The Swiss are Coming, The Swiss are Coming!
He's crazy
Talent wise he may be the best player. He got kicked off the Russian WJC team, he flaked out on Moncton after 22 games, and left his KHL team to join them. His maturity and character is greatly in question.
Here is a summarizing story on his downhill:

You mean you missed the soap opera par excellence of the 2010 draft?
In addition to what Judge said, he also got dumped by two agents. There were other rumors that KK says were spread by the Russian press, but I started thinking that he was…
Heat?!
Well, that movie does suck one in… :P
Lighthouse Hockey: Now accepting applications for 2015.
Time table on playing in NHL
He’s got size with a 6’ 2" frame but needs to add more to his 175lbs
Quote from above linked article
“He’s not ready yet for the NHL, doesn’t have a good reputation with Moncton or in the QMJHL in general and ruled out playing in Russia himself.”
If we get Telegin at 82 this could wind up being our greatest draft ever...
although I doubt were going forward again.

Krill Kabonov or Petrov
Don't know but
Garth is really liking the big forwards this draft no one under 6’ 2"
Jason Clark
Hockey’s Future says he’s going to Wisconsin, I expect him to be like Brock and another long term project.
The Swiss are Coming, The Swiss are Coming!
This was the only quote I could find for him, from a blog called Sixty Minutes “Clark’s size/skill package is going to be intriguing to a lot of NHL teams and it would not surprise me at all to see Clark go higher than the fifth round.”

23G 23A in 54 games with 80 penalty minutes.
Florida is putting together a Philly styled team. They may be really difficult to deal with in a couple of years.
Islander season begins today. Here's to a stronger December. Now go get Gudbranson, Snow, and give me my free tickets.
I'm not sure I understand that.
It means moving fron 95 this year to, what, somewhere between 70-80 next year?

I think it gives him options for the following year. Although I have heard that next year is a weak draft. I haven’t looked at any of them yet.

It’s actually a sign for an event the next day. But it is pretty funny in context.

I think that sign would have been appropriate for the Milbury years but still funny none the less.

I’m flipping back and forth between the draft and watching the US escape the Ghanarians. So far we are falling victim to Ghana. It is quite sad.

Paul Coffey's take on Karbanov
The Islanders selected Kirill Kabanov at No. 65. He had been ranked 31st by Central Scouting, but a troubled season saw him miss the first month of the Quebec League season as Moncton tried to gain his rights from his Russian team. He then lost three months to a broken wrist and finally, left Moncton during the playoffs to return to Russia to play in the World U-18 tournament, where he was soon released from the team.
Talented kid, but call him a project.
The Swiss are Coming, The Swiss are Coming!
yea, that was oddly missing, but so was Nino getting a TV Interview.
The Swiss are Coming, The Swiss are Coming!
to complete the picture
the girl who was blogging for BR also missed Nino entirely and only made passing mention of Nelson’s drafting while giving every other first round pick a reasonably complete analysis…and then got snotty with me when I questioned her about it.
So they interview Steve Thomas about his son going to the Rags and no one mentions that Steve played for the Isles? Um….WTF? Really?
Islander season begins today. Here's to a stronger December. Now go get Gudbranson, Snow, and give me my free tickets.
That was his son? I thought it was someone he was working with?
The Swiss are Coming, The Swiss are Coming!
Yeah, he joked about telling him to wake up and get ready for the draft.

It’s going again, finally.
BTW: The Coverage is awful, I’m happy I’m just watching the Ticker.

Agreed.
Perhaps I am watching the draft to see who the teams are taking but NNOOOO instead I get interviews of the first round picks excluding Nino once again. This is really bad.

How hard is it to just copy what the NFL does? Draft Players, talk about drafted players, show the next pick and so on.

it is more and more apparent that Mr. Irrelevant seems to be anyone past the 3rd round in the NHL according to this braodcast.

I bet we have at least 1 more interview with Hall/Seguin before the end of the draft. If I was the dopey announcer I would ask Hall, how does it feel to be so close to being picked by the Bruins but having the misfortune of going to Edmonton?
Islander season begins today. Here's to a stronger December. Now go get Gudbranson, Snow, and give me my free tickets.
Not that I have anything against Edmonton but he seems to be asking some really F@#$* stupid questions so he may as well swing for the fences.

Really, you could have said the same thing last year to JT. Other then Okposo there really were no offensive weapons on the team. Weight was another year older and Bailey hadn’t shown any real offensive flashes.
But yea, interesting questions like that would be nice.
The Swiss are Coming, The Swiss are Coming!
TSN had a 2009 Draft Redo
They had Duchene going 1, Hedman 2 and JT 3.
The biggest drop? DeHaan fell back 15 spots. Another reason I pay no attention to the talking heads.
The Swiss are Coming, The Swiss are Coming!
DeHaan drops because of an injury? Ok so if he comes into the NHL and destroys everyone does he pass JT on the redo?

HF: Who have you been partnered with throughout the year?
CdH: I’ve played with Tony DeHart all year. I think we’ve been the most consistent pair. We haven’t gotten broken up once this year. I’m having a lot of fun back there and I think he enjoys it as well.
That explains that pick. An Interview with DeHaan over at Hockey’s Future. NHL.Com doesn’t even have a profile on him.
The Swiss are Coming, The Swiss are Coming!
I just figured that we had an insider in the Generals. Somewhat of a fast track to the Isles of something.

The Islanders traded their two picks in this year’s sixth round to Atlanta for one fifth round pick in 2011.
From Botta
The Swiss are Coming, The Swiss are Coming!
Isn’t next year projected as a weak draft? Should we expect a bunch of trades of later round picks again next year? I guess Garth will keep trading until we own the first round in 2020. LOL

I think he wanted to give the current prospects in the system another year instead of adding 9 or 10 new guys and flooding the system. Especially when you look at guys like Nelson and Clark who are at least 2 years away, Krabanov is another project but DeHart might make BP quick.
The Swiss are Coming, The Swiss are Coming!
He’s underage though?
He said he’s more then willing to return to Montcon, according to an interview he had with reporters that Botta posted.
The Swiss are Coming, The Swiss are Coming!
That sucks. He could be interesting in BP.

But all reports is Moncton doesn’t want him back. I guess they could trade his rights, but if they tear up his contract or something isn’t he free?
If this is the same Cody Rosen, this is a strange pick

Have we picked at D at all in this draft?
So far I like the picks of Nino, Nelson and Kabanov is a steal in that draft position.
Nelson and Kabanov are still projects. This team really needs some D with size.
Tony DeHart, a 20 year old who played with the Oshawa Generals last year and is normally de Haan’s partner.
The Swiss are Coming, The Swiss are Coming!
If they actually keep them together they could possibly have some really good chemistry. That is kind of interesting.

In other news
The Rags have traded Bobby Sanguinnetti to the Canes for a 2011 sixth round pick.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
MWAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
This is another prospect that was hyped by the Rangers org to fall by the wayside. Every Rangers fan I ever met, when they boasted of their system, used to talk this guy up. This guy and that goalie who was supposed to be better than Lundqvist (he we was a bust also).
Oh the pain!!!
Oh the horror!!!
When Gordie Clark is one of your head scouts.
Eternally, I always laugh when a Ranger fan comes touting their next great prospect. Remember when Manny Maholtra was the next big thing for them?
The Swiss are Coming, The Swiss are Coming!
Now we have to hear about McIlrath beating the crap out of our prospects for the next couple of years until he reveals that he has a roid problem and all of his aggression came from chemicals.

I doubt McLrath
really makes much of a dent on the Rags.
I think Martin and Hamonic would pound the snot out of him anyways.
The good thing, the way our forward lines are shaping up, they are gonna need more than a few nucances to beat us. They are gonna need some D with skill to move the puck.
Okposo, Tavares and Nino are gonna be one hell of a headache for a lot of teams around the net.
McIlrath will be several years in development
and then the Rangers will probably have to trade Girardi to make room if he makes it. He has issues with skating and puckhandling.
Of interest, he and Hamonic were teammates on Moose Jaw before Hamonic was traded. Prior to the trade, he was the one gathering splinters while Hamonic played.
Now we have to hear about McIlrath beating the crap out of our prospects for the next couple of years until he reveals that he has a roid problem and all of his aggression came from chemicals.
Still catching up to everything that’s gone on this weekend but … well, I laughed!
Lighthouse Hockey: Now accepting applications for 2015.
he is probably two to three years away
we should set up a pool as to how many points Fowler will put up before McIlrath ever takes the ice at MSG.
