Wow. Top seed DU outshot RIT 40-25 but lost 2-1. For team captain and Isles prospect Rhett Rakhshani, that's it.

Great line from Michael Fornabaio: "Rhett Rakhshani, call your a… AN agent. Call an agent."

Wow. Man, if I’m Rhett I’m not happy. I turned down an NHL-entry level contract last summer to come back for my senior year with one goal, to win a National Championship and we crash out of the tournament to RIT? That’s got to be a disappointment. But hey! Our gain!

We're doomed. Doomed!

It’s funny how often that happens. I mean obviously only one can win per year, but the number of guys who go back with that in mind and then … that’s why they play the games, I guess.

But uh yay for us! “Look at the bright side, Rhett! We’re waiting for you!”

You had me scared for a second. When I saw “It’s over for Rakhshani” and before I read “RIT upsets Denver” I was thinking “oh no… do we have ANOTHER injured prospect”. I was quite relieved once I realized it what you actually meant.

On another note, that pretty much kills the bracket I filled out for the Puck Daddy contest, since I had Denver winning it all.

Oh man, I’m sorry. That is a heart-stopping headline.

At least you are probably one of thousands whose bracket took a big dent.

Sooner... better then later!

Rhett has been impressive every time I’ve seen DU. So has Donovan. With all respect to the no brainer that signing Rhett is… There needs to be an effort to get the kid from Oklahoma in here for the last 8 games, and a spot in BP next year.
IMHO he was the best player on the ice in that game… and as a Frosh who has had to move as a 16 YO just to play competetive hockey…. there’s a little untapped potential there… has to be. Give him to Professor Cappy for a few months and that’s another guy we can look forward to when we’re looking at the 8th, 9th and 10th D next year.
I sure can get overly optimistic after a bottle of vodka and a Tivo’d college hockey game.

Wang doesn't need to fire Gordon, just ask him how to address the third period meltdowns... and he'll just walk away.

I hear that, I do.

I say he’s too young, period. But man he has looked very, very good. He has an ease and creativity with the puck. Doing that as a frosh, I like it.

Isles Reading

Islanders Schedule

1979-80

May 24, 1980: Tonelli to Nystrom. At long last, the steady build of the New York Islanders from expansion doormat to surprise semifinalist to annual contender reaches the promised land: Buoyed by a late season trade for Butch Goring that gave the team the depth up the middle GM Bill Torrey had been seeking, the Islanders knock off the Philadelphia Flyers in six games.

The victory justified the faith in coach Al Arbour who guided them from their second season to their first Stanley Cup seven seasons later. The Islanders would not be the first expansion team to win the Stanley Cup, but they would be the only one capable of a dynasty.

1980-81

May 21, 1981: This time it was much easier. After falling to "only" 91 points in the 1979-80 season, the Islanders returned to their division title tradition, piling up 110 points -- a whole 13 points over second-place Philadelphia.

Between the quarterfinals (where they beat the upstart Oilers in six games) and the finals, the Islanders reeled off eight consecutive wins -- with a four-game sweep of archrival Rangers in between. As they defeated the Minnesota North Stars in five games for their second Cup, their goal difference in the final was a combined +10.

1981-82

May 16, 1982: Another year, another landslide title. The Islanders won the Patrick Division by a whopping 26 points over the second-place Rangers, and were seven points clear of their nearest competition for the President's Trophy, the still-not-quite-ripe Edmonton Oilers.

A first-round scare against the Pittsburgh Penguins turned in the Isles' favor thanks to John Tonelli's heroics, and a true dynasty was on its way: Past the Rangers in six games, then an eight-game sweep of the Quebec Nordiques and Vancouver Canucks to run away with the Stanley Cup.

1982-83

May 17, 1983: Not so fast, whipper-snappers. The Edmonton Oilers' steadily rising challenge for league supremacy took them all the way to the finals for the first time, where the New York Islanders summarily dispatched them in a four-game sweep. For the Islanders, the Dynasty was secured. For the Oilers, it was a powerful lesson in where talent ends and the demands of playoff hockey begin.

Four years, four Cups, 16 consecutive playoff series wins (a record that would grow to 19 until the rematch with the Oilers the following year). Mike Bossy scored 60 goals yet again, and Wayne Gretzky became acquainted with Billy Smith's crease.
