In the last 4gms, the isles have earned 7 out of a possible 8pts. Battling and conquering the over .500 ducks, battling and losing in ot to the over .500 coyotes, beating hot tampa bay in ot, and destroying the hopeless devils last. This is incredibly impressive, and I'd go as far as saying that the islander over these last couple games have played like they are a playoff bubble team. This isn't the same team we had during the losing streak, this isn't the same team we had at the beginning of the season. The changes that have had a positive impact along the way to this coming about, can be argued as a number of things: jurcina coming back, a-mac coming back, hamonic coming up and adjusting to the nhl, martin beating down teams, schremp playing well and with a comeau/sim line, JT heating up, Bailey coming up, pk playing more aggressive, everyone playing better, Rollie playing well, Capuano hired/Gordon fired, etc. All we know is, this team has shown what we had all hoped they would see these last couple games, a young team that can compete with almost any nhl team on any night. Add this to the news that KO is supposed to be back within a month and the rest of the year isn't looking so bad.
Now is the debating part or question time for you guys. Do you guys think this will or can continue for the rest of the season? I'm not saying we will win a ton more games or rip apart all the .500 and under teams in the nhl, but I'm asking for the rest of this year do you think we will compete and play like the playoff bubble team we were projected as?
If we play like the playoff bubble team we were projected to for the rest of the season we should end up with a end of the year pts score(?) of about: ~70pts, bottom 5/6 nhl finish
If we play like the up and down team we have been playing like for most of the losing streak, then we could expect a end of the year pts total of about: ~58pts bottom 2 finish.
If we play like Dr.Jekyl and Mr.Hyde, expect a end of the year pts total in between of about: ~65pts bottom 3/4 finish.
What do you think and why?
