The 5 stages of a dead season

  1. Denial – "It's just one loss", "He's rusty", "They'll get better"
This is temporary. Avoiding the dread we'll feel once we realize the season will soon be over.
  2. Anger – "I hate Snow", "I hate Wang", "I hate DP"
We realize denial can't continue and the individual acts out uncontrollably over many issues like parking rates, radio signal, ticket prices.. He may throws things. leave angry posts arguing with fellow fans. Logic goes out the window.
  3. Bargaining – "Just win one win and I promise to go on that diet"
The third stage involves the hope that the season can be saved. Call ups. Waiver wire. Trades. These hopes are either made with a higher power or someone even more powerful... the sports writer or blog host.
  4. Depression – "Why even watch the game", "I'll record it and zip through it, if they can't bother why should I?"                                                                                                                                  During the fourth stage, the fan becomes well aware that the season is not going to be saved. They know it's over but haven't come to complete terms with it yet. They deal by being alone in their room, thinking things through. Trying to figure out what went wrong.
  5. Acceptance – "There's always next season", "We'll get a good draft pick", "Just one more year."  In this last stage, the individual fan comes to terms with the season and it's futility. They realize it's just a game and what they should really be doing is enjoying their family and friends and look at the game as just entertainment and have fun with it, win or lose...                                                                   ...then start the process all over again next season.
