Hey Mike Cammalleri!

You hear those footsteps? That’s the sound of reckoning coming your way.

But but but

It’s against the law for Mike Cammalleri to be hit by rookies.

Only for him to use his stick like a battle axe against rookies?

Gillies should just pound on Cammalleri. Do something to earn his roster spot.

by AP77 on Oct 25, 2010 1:52 PM EDT up reply actions

I wonder if he would ever be allowed on the ice at the same time as Cammalleri. It would probably require a wormhole.

I think Mikey C is gonna spend a lot of time looking to the refs.

And probably some sort or Lindsey Lohan leg device thing to actually track him down once he sees Gillies, Konopka and Martin looking for him.

I hope he doesn’t cry.

I wonder what gesture Wiz has for Cammy.

by Les Beaver on Oct 25, 2010 2:15 PM EDT up reply actions

Just put Martinek on Cammi

That is the kiss of death for Crosby. Why not extend that courtesy to Cammi? A good Cammi is a quiet Cammi. Between NN and RM he’ll be lucky to get a shot off throughout the night.

I don't think "immacualte" and "efficiency" have ever appeared in the same sentence. Ever. Not even in the Bible.

Man, he did a stick check/swipe the other night that was just immaculate in it’s efficiency. I love when he plays, he’s such a steady presence out there.

...and heaven forbid if you can count how many men they play.

Just ask Radar about that from the 93 conference championship series. All I can say is that I really hope there aren’t any call that need to come from Toronto.

+10...but would he be making footsteps?

Refresh my memory, but when did Grabs get hurt?

They should just rename the team the Sound Tigers at this rate. How many man games have Isles lost to injuries so far this season?

I think it was

JT-3
JB-2
TH-2
AMac-1
Streit-8
KO-8
RSH-8

Total: 32 and counting, and I may have missed some.

If the question was rhetorical, I apologize.

No, I was being serious about the question.

Assuming your numbers are correct, at this rate that is 328 man games lost for the season.

Yes. Take a look at last year’s man games lost due to injury list compiled by THN for perspective.

328?

We can do SO MUCH better than that. Sheesh.

Line speculation time?

Martin, Gillies, and Konopka on the ice at the same time, as soon as we get Cammaleri stuck on due to icing…please? Please?

Seriously though! What lines will we see as a result of this move?

Grabner listed as day-to-day with groin injury, but tweets...

Hunter really hasn't looked healthy yet

He looks now how Doug Weight looked last year. They may point to one injury or another but he is not up to speed. I say just put him on IR for a month(or more), even if you have to make something up, and let the dude recoup. Any of the BP crew would be better than a 50% Hunter.

The kids are more than alright.

by Anarcurt on Oct 25, 2010 3:05 PM EDT up reply actions

Trents definitely not himself

There is no reason to make anything up if he is hurtin, a guy can be out even if he has the sniffles!
But put thie month-or-more LTIR right out of your mind. There is no rational reason to put a player on LTIR unless they are LTI.

I still think Comeau is playing hurt.

No hitting from him past couple of games. Not a good sign.

by Les Beaver on Oct 25, 2010 3:52 PM EDT up reply actions

He might just be sore, maybe a few days off will get him back up to speed

by ilopan on Oct 25, 2010 4:09 PM EDT up reply actions

We have goals scored by 12 different players so far

and we’re on pace to have 12 different injured players, as well. I like that symmetry.

We are nothing if not balanced.

I noticed since JT returned other guys have fallen a little flat

I hope they do not start watching and depending on him too much. I see a difference in the game of Comeau and even Weight since JT is back

Any task BIG or small, Do it well or not at all

by Rickfansince76 on Oct 26, 2010 3:28 PM EDT up reply actions

If we keep getting contributions from different players, then injuries will have a more muted effect.

Just call it the rotating door effect.

FWIW, national media is on to us. Up to #11 in the ESPN power ranking poll, not that that matters.

Isles Reading

Islanders Schedule

1979-80

May 24, 1980: Tonelli to Nystrom. At long last, the steady build of the New York Islanders from expansion doormat to surprise semifinalist to annual contender reaches the promised land: Buoyed by a late season trade for Butch Goring that gave the team the depth up the middle GM Bill Torrey had been seeking, the Islanders knock off the Philadelphia Flyers in six games.

The victory justified the faith in coach Al Arbour who guided them from their second season to their first Stanley Cup seven seasons later. The Islanders would not be the first expansion team to win the Stanley Cup, but they would be the only one capable of a dynasty.

1980-81

May 21, 1981: This time it was much easier. After falling to "only" 91 points in the 1979-80 season, the Islanders returned to their division title tradition, piling up 110 points -- a whole 13 points over second-place Philadelphia.

Between the quarterfinals (where they beat the upstart Oilers in six games) and the finals, the Islanders reeled off eight consecutive wins -- with a four-game sweep of archrival Rangers in between. As they defeated the Minnesota North Stars in five games for their second Cup, their goal difference in the final was a combined +10.

1981-82

May 16, 1982: Another year, another landslide title. The Islanders won the Patrick Division by a whopping 26 points over the second-place Rangers, and were seven points clear of their nearest competition for the President's Trophy, the still-not-quite-ripe Edmonton Oilers.

A first-round scare against the Pittsburgh Penguins turned in the Isles' favor thanks to John Tonelli's heroics, and a true dynasty was on its way: Past the Rangers in six games, then an eight-game sweep of the Quebec Nordiques and Vancouver Canucks to run away with the Stanley Cup.

1982-83

May 17, 1983: Not so fast, whipper-snappers. The Edmonton Oilers' steadily rising challenge for league supremacy took them all the way to the finals for the first time, where the New York Islanders summarily dispatched them in a four-game sweep. For the Islanders, the Dynasty was secured. For the Oilers, it was a powerful lesson in where talent ends and the demands of playoff hockey begin.

Four years, four Cups, 16 consecutive playoff series wins (a record that would grow to 19 until the rematch with the Oilers the following year). Mike Bossy scored 60 goals yet again, and Wayne Gretzky became acquainted with Billy Smith's crease.
