Guess we'll be getting a look at Hillen now
Think we’re going to call up someone from BP too?
Lighthouse Hockey: I go there for their taste in beer.
I don't know
He’s not listed on IR yet. Maybe they try their new pairings and then see how it goes? This is one benefit to carrying 8 D.
I’d be tempted to call up a forward myself, but that’s just because I’m greedy and want to see the Rhetts and Martins of the world. Gimme more, more! (In truth, we probably shouldn’t deplete Bridgeport unless we really need it.)
Lighthouse Hockey: You say that like Streit and Okposo and Schremp and Bailey were important.
Don't really need a forward unless Nino is sent back
Schremp should be getting back next week or the following. Hunter is back in, Bailey should be in Sat. I would love to have Martin but I don’t think the need is pressing.
Drink of the Month: Bailey's on Ice.
First, this injury thing is just nuts. I thought for sure Comeau was going to have a torn ACL or something too.
-
Second, I don’t get this whole Matt Martin love fest. We have guys camping in front of the net and creating goals. Give me a solid defenseman or a guy w/ some creativity like Rhett.
You can't teach size,
and Martin is BIG and we need height on offense. Add that to the fact that martin is playing pretty good in the bridge so far, plays a high energy phsyical game, and has some offensive talent, and he should be right at the top of the list for call-ups. Remember, he was the last forward sent down when they were making the final roster cuts, so that says something.
Go isles or Go home.
I know there's no need
I’m just being greedy. See toys, want toys. Mmmm, buuuurger.

Ghah!
My jersey curse continues!

this surprises you? why not start buying some Lundqvist and Avery jerseys ???
a profound return... i still love sammy octoberfest :-)
I’ve been wearing an Wild Antii Mietinen shirt I bought a couple of weeks ago to blend in out here, which has turned into my Isles good luck charm. Every time I’ve worn it they’ve won. Can you say new lucky shirt with no real ramifications if the guy gets injured?

i thought u just gave him the nickname, “wild” antii mietinen lol
but yeah, keep on keeping on with that shirt, may it never be washed!
a profound return... i still love sammy octoberfest :-)
The problem has been
explaining to my friends out here why I’m wearing a Wild shirt and an Isles cap at the same time.
BTW, it has been washed in between wins. I just can’t have something around (or wear it for that matter) that would get so grimey from continual wearing without washing.

Hey – I must have missed the AMac Community Projection. I’d really like to read that as I feel maybe I’m lacking in AMac knowledge.Link please?
Maybe that's the way to go
We wait until the guy is injured, then we project him based on how many months he’s going to miss. I predict Streit has a terrible, horrible 2010-11, with hardly any points at all.

NOTICE:
…..some a-hole by the name of T.E. Yale wrote one of the most vicious pieces on our team I’ve EVER seen at Yahoo! Sports….what does anyone think: do we bombard the f-k with comments, or ignore it completely?
Here’s the link:

SLUG, INDEED!
What a silly article that was...
No reason to post anything. He doesn’t seem like the type that would listen anyway.
Yup.
With a confusing title so people think it’s “official” like the Associated Press.
I looked at it and what I saw was a poorly written, poorly researched opinion post (not even worthy of being called an opinion editorial) which was openly lacking in any sort of journalistic standards.
Being a content editor for “Yahoo Associated Content” has to be the worst editorial job EVER if pieces like this one are being approved – I can’t IMAGINE how bad the stuff they’re rejecting is.
….hmm. Maybe I’ll write an Associated Content submission about how poor the Associated Content system is…

I'd side with "ignore"
ogam5, I “hid” your FanPost on this. There was something technically screwy that was messing up the page’s formatting, but in any case we don’t need to make a big deal of it.
Like some mentioned, he’s doing Yahoo’s version of Bleacher Report (they bought Associated Content earlier this year), and if you notice there are a bunch of articles next to it that are coincidentally very similar in topic, all launched today (Reasons to hate this team, 5 reasons to blah blah, etc.).
Also, everyone please note: There are already two FanShots linking to this article. (One here, one there.) This is my own fault, but this is why it’s a good idea when you’re doing a FanShot to be pretty specific in the title. So, not “Please Read This” as your title (nor “OMG! PLEASE READ………..”, but rather, “Yahoo User’s Tripe: 5 Reasons to Hate the Islanders.” etc. You can always add further commentary in the body of your FanShot, or as the first comment.

The origin of the story...
Urologist: Ted, so how are things in the bedroom?
Ted Yale: Wha?
Urologist: Well, Mr. Yale, I’ve been practicing medicine for 20 years and I don’t think I’ve seen a penis that small on an adult male. …ever… and I have two Irish midgets that have been coming to me since they were children.
Ted Yale: It wasn’t always that way…
Urologist: Hmmm… are you feeling an inordinate amount of stress at work?
Ted Yale: Not really…uuuum doc… can you make it bigger?
Urologist: Like big enough so that you don’t pee on your pants when you’re in a public urinal…ummm… no… but why don’t you jot down the things that really bother you and maybe we can get you to a psychologist that can turn it from an inny to an outty for ya.
Ted Yale: Okay Doc… i have an article due at yahoo!Sprots anyway…
Iin Newsday I read, the islanders blew, and now I can't see for myself, cause they're on MSG+2... Thanks Dolan
Good one
Ted Yale: Not Really should read “It all started with Wiz against the Rangers, apparently it can be held in two hands. I’m lucky if I can get anyone to hold it between their pinky and thumb.”
Unbelievable
He’s going to be wearing a Tavares jersey in two years after the Islanders make a run in the playoffs, praising their character, and to borrow a phrase from Amazin’ Avenue, “grission.” He’s simply a glorified internet troll. Nothing he says holds any weight: “they suck” isn’t a good reason to not like a team, an old building isn’t either, and neither is some spotty logic about the WHA. Pick on the Rangers then for driving the New York Americans out of town.
Don’t you think he said the same thing about the Penguins about, oh, say, five years ago? And now he’s probably sporting his Crosby 87 jersey.

thanks Dom!
I was afraid to post a fanpost. Just happen to see it on twitter, and was unsure of the formatting.
Paper cuts
This season so far is shaping up to be death by a thousand paper cuts. AMAC isn’t our best d, Schremp isn’t our best forward, Bailey wasn’t our top offensive player, Hunter isn’t our most experience leader but each injury takes a little bit of a toll. It wasn’t easy to shrug of fStreit or Okposo, but once we got to Schremp I was thinking not the end of the world, now as we lose more and more players I’m growing a bit more concerned, but not panicked. Luckily we have far more depth than last season and there is a real sense of parity between players in and out of the lineup.
Question for our Florida/traveling readers who might go to Saturday's game
Anyone who is going Saturday night in Florida, do you have tickets already?
I ask because I received a rather late notice from the Panthers on a deal on tickets. (Essentially, good and semi-good individual seats at the group rate.) So I’m trying to gauge whether it’s worth posting or not.
Lighthouse Hockey: You say that like Streit and Okposo and Schremp and Bailey were important.
Every point we get while these guys are away the better
If we reach the end of November, after all the injuries and road games, and are still 8th or better I would expect us to be a playoff team for sure. The team is doing everything it needs to do in this situation. Keeping games close and taking advantage of opportunities when they come. Other teams will get injuries. The ones that don’t might get tired. 4-6 weeks is nothing big in the grand scheme of things. If we get these injuries out of the way early and are playing a full or near full roster Jan 1st (Okposo should be back around then) with enough points to be in the race we will be in great position.
As good as they have played we might be better in a few months. Here’s hoping to surprise a few more critics.
Drink of the Month: Bailey's on Ice.

Hockey players are the best, ain’t they? They sign for fans who twitter them, they film replies to angry fan mail, and they even worry about how to stretch $1.8 million in today’s tough economy – just like us.

That is really funny.
Not that the "public apology " wasn’t enough but then he tells him to get his players moving because they are too slow. That is priceless. The straight face response makes the whole thing though.

Definitely
They handled that perfectly, I think.
Any time NHLers can not take themselves too seriously, they’re generally taking advantage of an area/rep they have over a lot of other pro athletes.

"A hockey fan of middling rabidness"
Says it all. What was the point?
Go find yourself an open door.
OK someone has to ask it...
I know that players that block shots are premium players and the coach that can convince them to do so has great influence with their players. However the Isles have blocked an obscene amount of shots over these games in the opening month of October. You have to wonder when these blocked shots will take their toll on the players. We all know about the Isles December pattern. When you stop to think that about all the blocked shots they have/ are going to rack up that they will be effective come mid-season. Is it possible that the coaches can teach them some smarter angles or better man coverage techniques so that the injuries or general wear and tear does not catch up to the players by December?
Home after 19 years of being away. Now to find a job.
There’s usually no correlation between blocked shots and a team being good or bad. Last years blocked shots leaders were
Florida, Islanders, Montreal, Edmonton and Philly in that order.
Florida and Edmonton were awful, Philly and Montreal got to the Eastern Conference Finals.
The bottom five were
Kings, Boston, Yotes, Devils, Ducks, Wings.
You just gotta play your game, and if it involves blocking shots so be it.

It's an interesting question
I was thinking about the inevitability of injuries last night after watching a series of great blocks. Little did I know A-Mac was already a victim.
I do know players talk about the best way to block them to reduce the likelihood of injuries, but certainly no method is perfectly safe (other than, “oops, Ole!”) and some situations are just “get whatever you can in front of it.” Especially with the rules not allowing you to take so many liberties to clear the slot and front of the net, it just seems to be the way of things now.
And of course A-Mac’s came on a 5-on-3 kill, which is pretty much throw every man, woman, child and dog time.
