Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

The Rob Schremp Catch-and-Release Goal

Unfortunately it was not the winner in the Isles' 3-2 win in Denver.

But this goal was, well it was kinda good.

Sadly, the referee waived it off quickly (even though he had no line of sight on the puck; he was overruled on video review). That cut short what surely would have been a wild Rob Schremp Hockey Celebration.

Hell, it was worth a Slap Shot-style strip tease.

That was worthy of a Keith Ballard Goalie smashin’ if you ask me! Hoorah for that, haha. It’s nice to hit .500 and get to see some nifty hockey all at once.

Yes, and I probably won’t be for a good long while.

it just is amazing how much he get on it, having let the puck go only for a 2 foot drop, usually you aren’t the one flipping it to yourself, your hands are already ready to swat, he had to “reload” for that one, and the cherry on the sundae was the angle of the shot, it’s rising top shelf as it hits the back of the net… a pure beauty

The number of times I have swung and missed at a puck or made marginal contact and have it go puttering in the other direction … I am not proud.

And yet, in the millisecond of the moment, when I saw what was happening, I knew it was either Tavares or Schremp there so I had sincere hope he was going to do exactly what he did.

I was amazed at how he could wave off a puck that hit the back crossbar. He may as well hit the camera for good measure. I was surprised that Toronto overturned that call. For some reason they have been pretty fair with the Isles this season.

I am starting to believe that the guy that hit Brendan Witt with the SUV was Swiss.

it was pretty cut and dry, idiot had no line of sight and should have asked for help instead of giving the home call, earlier in the game a linesman was blocked on a play and the trail linesman called offside from 40 feet away… because that’s what you are supposed to do… anyone see any quotes or anything if reporters caught up with the ref and asked him about the play? if he watched the puck go in, he’d have seen the rising angle of the puck, making it IMPOSSIBLE in terms of physics, for that to have been played by a high stick…

…and Schremp isn’t that tall to begin with. I just thought I would throw that in for good measure. Sorry I couldn’t resist.

I really wich I could have seen this game.

Rising puck...

…and it even popped the BOTTLE UP on top of the net. It was like LaRue just saw a swinging motion and said “it must be a high stick.” Doesn’t he know THIS IS ROB SCHREMP HOCKEY?!

I know split-second decisions are hard, though. I just … he had no business waiving that off. Glad there was a conclusive replay angle (or three).

All I know is that I was in a bar watching the game, I saw what he did and could not put together what he had just done.

I have watched the replay like 20 times now, Shremp is fast becoming my new favorite underdog Islander.
