History and Now: The politics of the New York Islanders
An Examiner "Sports and Business" piece that goes from the beginning to the present. Mostly old stuff, but an interesting run-down.
No sources cited, so I'm curious to any quibbles with the version of events.

It was my impression that
attendance was good back when the franchise was winning in the late 70s and the 80s. That raises the question: if they were losing money, why?
As far as I know, the contract was always due to expire in 2015, so that’s not new. The escape clause wrinkle is not something I have heard of before and I would need to see sources on it. Doesn’t matter even if it is true, however, as the NC assembly would never approve an early out and I am skeptical that an arena would be available in Brooklyn or Queens before 2015 anyway.
The Queens location is so far superior to Brooklyn that I have to believe that Wang would go there if anywhere. In any event, I expect something to happen no later than this summer for the simple reason that 2015 will be here before you know it and Wang needs to be sure that he isn’t stuck with renewing the Coliseum lease as a failsafe.
