Who are the other up and coming Swiss skaters, particularly defenders, in your opinion, who might make the leap to the NHL?

The ones here, Luca Sbisa and Yannick Weber are on the right path. They’re definitely promising young players. Nobody knew Sbisa over here. But he came over and gave it a try. There are certainly one or two players who can make it here but they have to take the leap. If you stay in Switzerland waiting for them to roll out the red carpet nothing will ever happen. There are a few but you need to maintain the goal–the dream–of playing here yourself.

Mark Streit, Swiss Hockey interview, February, 2009

One wonders what Mark thinks of El Nino now that he has not only made the leap but is playing killer hockey in Portland and dominated the WJC? Be an interesting interview question, Dom!

sorry

cool you found it though. In the middle of last year’s doldrums and after the 3-1 MSG loss, Mark still was pumped. He knew they had a special group there. Nino would be a good add as were JT and Matt (and maybe Schremp).
