Around SBN: Ellenberger vs. Sanchez Heats Up, Hughes Talks Retirement

"Seriously. How does Osgood not get the nod against a prospective powder puff like the Islanders? Saving him for the even more dangerous Hurricanes, Babs?"

>>A Red Wings blog quoted in Puck Daddy's Tuesday game preview. Hey, he said "prospective." We all know prospects don't always pan out like we hoped.

With that win we are only 4 points behind the Wings in overall league standings!

Red Wings…pfft.

We all know prospects don’t always pan out like we hoped.

Is that some bitterness at the constant ‘but Zetterburg was draft 2 billionth overall and he’s a stud’ talk?

by HugoAgogo on Jan 13, 2010 1:59 AM EST reply actions

I think they were talking about Joe Murphy, you know, because the Red Wings are so superior in the draft.

I am starting to believe that the guy that hit Brendan Witt with the SUV was Swiss.

Haha…no specific bitterness. I like the “prospective powder puff” phrasing, though.

Like: I will prospectively kick your ass, unless I don’t.

I guess the fact that both teams have 4 cups since the inception of the Islanders escapes that article. The only difference is that the Isles are 4 in a row.

That’s ok, I don’t believe that the Isles will be in their current place the near future. Regarless of what the Detroit fans think. To be fair the Detroit announcers were really speaking the praises of the Isles last night. They spoke of Schremp like…like he got 2 goals. They mentioned a number of different players and spoke highly of Gordon’s leadership (not going to say system.)

I am starting to believe that the guy that hit Brendan Witt with the SUV was Swiss.

It’s been a (relatively) challenging year, so Wings fans probably have broader things to worry about than one opponent they probably took for granted: For long-time fans, the likelihood that it will never be as good as it was; for short-term fans, the directions for how the hell you jump off this bandwagon.

And that is so unfortunate because I can’t bear to watch the Pitt bandwagon grow. That is just painful. Hopefully they become Caps fans instead.

They should take a cue from Van Halen, “Just Jump!”

While, yes we have turned it around, it is going to take some time for us to get respect around the league. Until we at least make it to the conference finals, other fans and commentators will not show us the respect we want.

what would you expect from a wings fan on a blog, dom?

christ, some idiot threw an octopus out onto the ice not only during play (1st mistake) but while they were down 3-0 (2nd mistake)

why isn't #16 hanging in the rafters?

by bob l on Jan 13, 2010 8:35 AM EST reply actions

actually I think they were being attacked by the sea beast and they were warding it off. It just happened to land on the ice during play because you never can predict when mighty sea beasts will attack.

However, that was somewhat ridiculous. Has the octopus ever been thrown on the ice at anytime other than a home opener or a playoff game? I can’t seem to recall the fans throwing one out during the regular season let alone as a means of a rally cry.

Octopus

Maybe a Wings fan fleeing Detroit, figuring “Well, I guess I’ve no use for this anymore.” But I like metalcoconut’s theory. Think I heard something about a sea beast attack on The Weather Channel.

The comment was about what I expected I guess, but I hadn’t seen the Puck Daddy preview before the game. So seeing it during the post-game high gave me a good belly laugh.

After reading the comments on Puckdaddy‘s site and Wingin it in Motown, I get ticked off. Why is it that when the wings win, it is because of their “great system”? When the wings lose, it is because they are playing hurt? Every team goes through the injury bug attack at one time or another, good god just look at the Isles last year! You are supposed to be able to “play through”, and win enough to stay level. At least that’s what I have been hearing for the last 2 or 3 decades. Now they claim that they should be judged by a different standard? In the words of a great cartoonist, “Pshaw”
This game, the Isles were better.

Per doctor’s advice, I steer clear of the PuckDaddy comment section, but if that’s the excuse, I wonder how Detroit won four out of five coming into last night’s game?

But yeah, your soapbox fits well here.

That was my question, but I decided not to ask it. No matter how trollish I wanted to be. It annoys me when others do it, so I try to contain myself.
It even works sometimes!

Howard was hot, and he had to come crashing down to earth eventually.
