Dynasty-era Islanders' beloved grumpy old men
This is beautiful.
If you haven't seen this on the Islanders official site yet, it's a great idea and pretty well executed: Clark Gillies, Bobby Nystrom and Bryan Trottier watch Islanders practice and comment on all the change in the game since they played. They sound like a grumpy old men skit (in a good way).
Stuff like skating with one hand on the stick, giant equipment that encourages today's players to block shots -- and giant goalie equipment enables you to shoot shoulder-high in practice without Billy Smith killing you before you even get to the blueline.
And of course, it's hockey, so as you'd imagine it's littered with quips and ball-busting -- everything from Nystrom's Cup-winning goal to making Wayne Merrick be the practice drill guinea pig.

You know, I can’t imagine they aren’t — or at least should be soon. The first images of John Tavares were in that practice jersey, so you’d think they’d capitalize on it.
Haven’t really done any shopping yet, though.
