Martin Biron Inked to One-Year Deal
Garth Snow got himself a steal of a deal inking Martin Biron to a one year $1.4 million dollar contract. This is sure to raise rumors of the health of Rick DiPietro, but at least we have TWO quality keepers this season.

WOOO!!! Finally a good Move
A COMPLETE Steal.
The market probably dried up for Biron around the league considering he was looking for 3.5 to 4.5 a year. Now theres no openings left around the league and Snow got a true starter at a steal.

Now how did I know you’d love this move? :)
I think Scott Munroe just said, “Well … {sigh} so much for that dream then.”

haha, I would have been all for the Isles getting Biron except for him wanting 4.5 mill or whatever at the opening of FA.
Living in Philly, I’ve seen plenty of his games, he’s a solid vetrean backup. As I posted somewhere else, this is still a long term move for the Islanders. Hip Injuries are insanely serious and take a while to come back from. The way I see it Biron starts the season with Roloson as backup. DiP starts on Injury or the AHL. As long as Biron has a good season (which is highly possible with a 1 year deal) he’ll should be highly valuable as trade bait given his playoff experience.
In the end we give DiP more time off, especially if you look at the history of hip injuries in sports thats a plus. We also have the possibility of adding another 1st or 2nd rounder in next years draft and we help extend Roloson’s career for another season as backup for next season. So we might actually go into a season with a backup.

Incredible!
Nothing more to see here, DiPietro is just fine, thanks :)
I like that they took advantage of a hole in the market — Biron wanting more and not getting it. Boy, Roloson, Biron and a slowly rehabbing(?) DiPietro…makes this year an interesting one for sure.

DP had another surgery in March
Botta saying he will begin light skating in late August.
It may not be official that he is done but this is not looking good.

He signed for $100k less than what Philly gave Emery. Boy, this will be interesting to see unfold.

BD Gallof has more of this story coming on Islanders Independent
He just got off the phone with somebody close to DP I think.
This does not look like good news for DP.

Guys, there is literally NOTHING coming out of the Islanders on Ricky right now….

It should be obvious, Hip Injury is a serious injury. I’ve been saying I don’t expect him back for this season since last season.

But it’s supposedly the KNEE that was the lingering problem. (Which, granted, may have been harmed by the hip injuries/rehab.)
Here’s how they have to handle DiPietro: Slowly, judiciously. Whether he’s “done” (we won’t know for years) or whether he could come back as Superman, they owe him for another decade, so they have to take the long view and give him more than ample rehab time. I wished it had gone this way last fall, but apparently there was a lot of short-term thinking by multiple parties involved.

Biron is such a smart move because even if DiPietro is okay and/or Biron underperforms you still have an asset that you can deal at the trade deadline. Its a low-risk high-reward move regardless.
